The implementation of the southern border security project is under way, according to the Border Guards.
The project includes roads, facilities and security offices that will be interlinked through an advanced electronic system alongside the border with Yemen and Oman.
Maj. Gen. Mohammad Al-Ghamdi, Border Guard spokesman, said Border Guards in the Northern Province have not noticed the existence of villages and hamlets inside the border area, but that villages in the southern area would be moved for enhanced safety.
“Residents who are relocated will be compensated for their properties,” he said. “Living along the border is dangerous for citizens since they are at close quarters with infiltrators and smugglers, not to mention the fact that houses are an obstacle to chase operations.”
Exact figures on the number of people who can be transferred have yet to be determined
