Israel in turn has demanded to know whether the weapons were intended to attack Kurdish rebels positioned on the Turkish-Syrian border, Kuwaiti paper reports.

A representative appointed by Turkey's Defense Ministry has been sent to Israel in order to procure Israeli made weapons and aircraft equipment as a condition for the return to normalized relations between the two countries, Arab media reported Wednesday.

According to Kuwati based newspaper publication al-Jarida, Turkish Defense Minister Ismet Yilmaz sent a special envoy Tuesday to meet with Israel's security echelon in order to negotiate financial terms concerning weapons sales.

Israel in turn has demanded to know whether the weapons were intended to attack Kurdishrebels positioned on the Turkish-Syrian border, according to the report.

The Turkish government made clear that the weapons sales, including the purchasing of unmanned aerial vehicles, was part of a wider framework agreement in which the two countries would normalize relations, according to the al-Jardia report.

Israel has yet to responded to the Turkish request, waiting to see if Ankara was still committed to honoring previous agreements to buy gas from the Jewish state. In turn, Turkey has yet to respond to Israeli inquiries concerning the use of UAV's against the Kurds.

In response to reports that Turkey and Israel were close to reaching an agreement in returning to normalized relations, Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon said earlier this week that it was difficult to proceed in negotiations between the nations if Turkey continues to support the terrorist organizations Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood.

"I am not sure if we can arrive to an agreement" if they continue funding these extremist organizations, Ya'alon said. "They must comply with the terms of our agreement so that we can overcome these obstacles," he added.

Turkish-Israel relations soured in May 2010 after an Israeli raid on a Turkish boat, the Mavi Marmara, saw ten people killed as the vessel attempted to breach a blockade on the Gaza Strip.

After the Mavi Marmara incident, then prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan put three condition on a normalization of ties: an Israeli apology, compensation and a lifting of the blockade of Gaza.

Netanyahu apologized in 2013 and the issue of compensation has apparently been resolved. Israeli officials have said Israel would not lift the blockade, which it sees as of cardinal importance to its security, to please Erdogan.

Why would a country as well armed as Turkey, indeed, a major arms producer like Turkey, be so desperate as to need to demand weapons from Israel as a requisite for better diplomatic relations? Something does not add up there...

.
What is it like living in turkey ? It was quite secular back in the days has that changed? Are there more Islamic extremists around these days on the streets/mosques etc? What's the atmosphere like

.
Demands ?? First they supported terrorist organizations in Israel and became pro-palestine and now demanding their superior military equipments..
True Hypocrisy..

It is hard to believe that Israel will trust the Turks again as long as Erdogan and co are running Turkey.

Don't kid yourself. The Israelis learned a long time ago to never trust anyone, including my country. Everyone eventually, "throws them under the bus". They operate on pure self-interest, probably to their credit. They are never disappointed in anyone.

Many of Turkey's weapons are Israeli (For example it's UAV's)
Military collaboration[edit]

Annual U.S.-Turkish-Israeli training exercise, 2009
In 2007, Israel and Turkey discussed the sale of Israeli Ofeq satellites and Arrow missile air-defence systems to Turkey to upgrade Turkish military and intelligence capabilities.[25] Israeli defense companies have helped to modernize the F-4 Phantom fleet of the Turkish air force. Agreements have included air, sea, land and intelligence cooperation, manufacturing of aircraft, armaments and missiles, mutual military visits, training and exercises, dispatch of observers to oversee military exercises, staff exchanges and military know-how.[88]
  • Modernization of Turkey's F-4 Phantoms and F-5 aircraft – $900 million.
  • Upgrading 170 of Turkey's M60A1 tanks – $687 million.[89]
  • Popeye-I and Popeye-II missiles.
  • Popeye-II surface-to-air missiles – $150 million.
  • 10 Heron UAV - $183 million.[89]
  • Arrow anti-ballistic-missiles. (Agreed in principle by Israel; approval by the United States pending.)
  • The agreement provided exchange of pilots eight times a year; allowed Israeli pilots to practice "long range flying over mountainous land" in Turkey's Konya firing range; and permitted Turkish pilots to train at Israel's computerized firing range at the Nevatim airfield.[90]
  • The two navies conducted maneuvers during Operation Reliant Mermaid (the U.S. also participated) in January 1998.
In September 2011, military agreements between Turkey and Israel were suspended. Turkey has frozen 16 defense contracts worth billions of dollars since March 2010. Turkey suspended a 5 billion dollar deal for 1,000Merkava Mk 3 tanks.[91] Turkey also dropped Israel Aerospace Industries Arrow-2 anti-ballistic missile system worth $2 billion from bidding. Now only U.S, European, and Chinese companies can bid.[89]

Nobody is denying that we bought weapons from Israel,Israel was one of our close allies.

It didn't demand Israel to Apologize for marmara, nor to give back money to the families.
I'm not fond of this agreement between Turkey to Israel. Either Turkey want Israel on it's side and ready to desert Hamas or it doesn't and Israel shouldn't have connection with this country.
Maybe Turkey didn't demand weapons, but it sure want some.

We were the best allies before the flotilla incident(which was a set up to get votes).

The incident happened and to normalize relations,Israel has to compensate the families and apology is not to much to ask.
If you or i are fund of this agreement doesnt matter, does it?
Of course we want Israëli weapons, you are one of the leaders in military defence industry but we never ''demand''.
