US arms manufacturer Remington delivered a batch of 12,657 brand new M4 carbines to the Philippine Army, completing its supply contract of 56,843 M4s.

The delivery was carried out ahead of schedule late last December, Army spokesman Col. Benjamin Hao said on Sunday.

The weapons, ordered by the military as part of its modernization program, are undergoing technical inspection by military experts before formal acceptance by the Army. "They have to undergo procedure, it takes another time before they will be distributed to troops," Hao explained.

The 56,843 Remington M4s cost the Philippine Armed Forces P1.9 billion. The first batch of 24,300 weapons was delivered in July 2014, followed by another batch of 19,300 the month after.

The first batch of delivered M4s has already been distributed to soldiers after passing the technical inspection and ballistic test by the PNP. The second batch of rifles is still undergoing ballistic tests.

Barring any hitches, Hao said the last two batches of rifles will be distributed to troops in the field by this year.

Presently, most Philippine soldiers are still using the 1960s-era M16 rifle. The new M4 is "lighter but more powerful" than the M16. "That is a world-class rifle and our troops are proud to have this kind of weapon,” said Hao of the M4s.

@MaarKhoor Sir, as you know the M4 is manufactured by different manufacturers around the world. How about opening a thread on:

1) The Manufacturers of the M4,
2) M4's history,
3) M4's variants,
4) M4's accessories
5) M4's users

When you have time.

Best Regards

Sadly and ironically, lack of government support.

While those locally made assault rifles issued to the PH Army and Marine Corps are based on the M16A1 rifles.

Considering the nature of the Philippine terrain, I think bullpup design is better as it allows the soldier to move around corners and thick vegetation with ease.

Depends on, most of Asean armies chose conventional layout design for their standard assault rifle. Carbine like rifle currently gaining more popularity due to their compactness and familiarity with full sized assault rifle. Bullpup design had their pros and cons too, but as i said is depend on.

Actually, i suspect about why Ph chose M4 design as their standard assault riffle is much to do with familiarity among soldier and weapon armorer who doing regular maintenance and refurbisment, meanwhile Ph frequent conflict will tear the weapons quickly so there is urgent need to accept something they had familiar with meanwhile still giving some improvement over previous weapons.
