Reliance Defence Engineering Limited (RDEL) has emerged as the lowest bidder to build 14 Fast Patrol Vessels( FPVs) for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). It is the largest naval order to the private sector by ICG. The contract value is Rs.920 crore. FPVs are primarily designed for patrolling anti-smuggling and anti-terrorist operations, fisheries protection and search and rescue and are a critical support to the Navy during wartime.A company official confirmed that company had emerged as the L1 bidder in the competitive bids and is hopeful of signing the contract soon. The first vessel to is expected to be delivered within 24 months from date of signing the contract and the last within 76 months from date of signing the contract.

Yesterday they got repairing and refitting orders worth 300 crore and now 920 crores for FPVs.

Any Idea about what happened to the Philippine naval requirement of two light frigates ?

Last I heard Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers had emerged as the lowest bidder for that contract but was facing disqualification for failing to clear financial assessment tests.

That too was worth almost half a billion $.

They are pathetic as a product or service company, RCom gone for toss, RPower has no clues, Reliance Metro job was shabby....They to KG basin and made mess out there too..

Age old baniya philosophy.bid low , seek deviations from original t & c of contract & damage the entire existing ecosystem

I'm not a huge fan of Reliance entering defence .Their capacity to undermine the situation will put the existing PSU's to shame & their avarice will give a complex to carpet baggers.

THAT is unfortunately true. Its a bad idea to give contracts to companies who have a history of screwing its customers AND vendors.

This is OPV, this contract is for fast patrol vessels. Total cost is Rs.920 crore for 14 of them.

2- Cutting edge hi tech innovation.
3- No delays.
4- No political interests.
5- Kick-*** after sales support.

Because Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers were L1 and have a history of delivering the same class of ships to IN.

Looks like they lost the contact due to lack of 'imagination' required to demonstrate financial competence. Typical of PSU.
