Which nation do you think the Bush Administration threatened to bomb back to stone age after the 9/11 episode?

Should this war ever occur (God forbid), it will be entirely different in scale and tactics in comparison to what US demonstrated in Afghanistan. US will also bring those assets to bear that it have not so far.

Israel is developing a missile defense shield to protect its mainland. Even if Pakistan gets through its defenses, I am not sure how that would hurt the US. A nuclear attack on Israel might motivate US to unleash its own weapons of mass destruction without a second thought.

As for the oil buddies; American oil imports have reached their lowest point in a span of decades at present. Reason is that US is producing its own oil and exploring alternative sources of energy to fulfill its needs.

Bush never said that, it's a myth. Been debunked numerous times.

As for Israels defemce system, it can barely defend itself from Hamas rockets (even then some of them do land). I doubt they will be able to do much against nuclear warheads. Also, their defence systems are designed for short range missiles, not long range ones.

Also, I am sure that getting rid of America's oil buddies (or at least damaging them) will certainly give the US a nasty taste in their mouth. Even the mere threat of it alone should be enough to stop the US from doing anything stupid.

You know, sometimes you only need to do the simplest things to come out of a tight corner.

America.....is being the pretty blond sorority girl that a Pakistani guy will never understand. She is in a relationship one day and wants to be left alone the other. Because she needs her "space". She doesn't wanna break-up with you but only wants to be on a break to "reevaluate" things.

Thats all it is folks. It's election year in town here. So there will be some mood swings, some tantrums. No full blown break ups but just a break, some distance to look at things differently. Come next year the pretty blond girl will be calling the guy again. And if the guy is smart and can deal with the tentrums, he gets to sleep with her again. And hey, no marriage either.
Rofl: Well put, the one thing you left out is the blonde thinks your sleeping with that brunette from science class and she isnt going anywhere with you till its on facebook that you dumped her

Ever heard of: "keep my friends close and my enemies closer"?

May the Lord give me strength! I just cannot fathom the mentality of those Pakistanis who are victims of appearances. What NATO does in broad daylight and what she does in dark of night are two wholly different states.

To the contrary, Israel DOES care: Pakistan has the potential capability of frustrating her expansionist designs & of what you have stated.

Here is some wisdom:

Asad: O YOU who have attained to faith! Do not take the Jews and the Christians for your allies: they are but allies of one another - and whoever of you allies himself with them becomes, verily, one of them; behold, God does not guide such evildoers.

Woe betide Pakistan if this is the discernment of the educated Pakistani man. Woe betide her!

We are not taking them as allies. We take their money and their help, then stab them in the back. Hardly call that being an ally.

since 1947, Pakistan's relationship has always been the same - transactional at best - we joined CENTO and SEATO to curb the soviets and red Chinese in the 50s and 60s. the US-PAK mutual defense agreement was considered a lynchpin for US- PAK relations but unfortunately by Pakistan only. for the US it was clear, if the soviets attacked the CENTO countries, the agreement would be invoked, otherwise it was not worth the cost of the paper it was signed on.

the US has sanctioned Pakistan in 65, 71 and then again in 89 (for our nuke program) and continues to sanction Pakistan on one pretext or another. it the US wants Pakistan to be a 'good little boy' and do what they order us to do.

relations warmed somewhat when the soviets invaded Afghanistan in 1980 and Pakistan took full advantage of the situation ably supported by the Reagan administration. when the soviets withdrew from Afghanistan, the US also pulled back leaving Pakistan to deal with the refugees, gun culture and narcotics, all BTW of our own making.

then came 911 and the US looked to Pakistan once again and we quickly stood in line lest we were destroyed back to the stone age. again billions poured in economic and security assistance.

the one common denominator when US-PAK relations were 'warm' was that a military man was at the helm of affairs in Pakistan.

Ayub 58-69
Zia 80-87 and would have continued indefinitely had he not been killed in a C130 crash.
Musharraf in 01-08.

the US has always used the 'carrot and stick' approach with Pakistan and will continue to do so. in the past traditionally a republican president and congress would always support Pakistan (Eisenhower, Nixon, Reagan, Bush) but things have soured to such an extent that both republicans and democrats in congress do not support Pakistan anymore and this policy is not going to change anytime soon until or unless some new crisis develops in our neighborhood which is considered a 'threat' to the US.

time for our civilian and military planners to start thinking anew.

We have to live in same conditions until we ourselves sincerely work for our country and get rid of those who worship $ for the sake of their properties outside of Pakistan

why some Pakistanis have such attitude of cowardliness? in this region which country is not going through issues? does Iran dont have issue on its border? one side ISIS in iraq 50 thousand solders they have send in Syria they have worst relations now with arabs as well as pakistan is also not friendly but yet they are solid as rock

KSA ... ISIS on border in iraq, hotis are in Yemen, behrain is having its own issues and estren province is also having violence in it but yet they are strong

Turkey... issues with Syrians ... problems with Kurdish forces and so on recently attack has taken place near Russian bases in Syria and turkey has again dragged in to war but they solid as rock.

every body fighting its war with honor and dignity and our forums are filled up with very negative comments , trust me Pakistan will pull back as a great nation if just once they have taken a brave standoff. beside that i wonder if a huge number of neighboring country users are floating in using pakistani identities to post the negative buzz in this forum under the tag of "wolf in sheep clothing" :D

Bush never said that, it's a myth. Been debunked numerous times.
An American president would not say such a thing. Bush instructed his officials to convey his message to others.

Richard Armitage issued that warning to the Director of ISI. The latter conveyed same message to Pervez Musharraf.

As for Israels defemce system, it can barely defend itself from Hamas rockets (even then some of them do land). I doubt they will be able to do much against nuclear warheads. Also, their defence systems are designed for short range missiles, not long range ones.
Israel is developing a multi-layered defensive capability against missiles and similar threats. I don't say that it is ready to stop a large volley of ballistic missiles at the moment. But it will be at some point in the near future. Keep an eye on developments related to Arrow 2 and Arrow 3 ABM systems.

Also, I am sure that getting rid of America's oil buddies (or at least damaging them) will certainly give the US a nasty taste in their mouth. Even the mere threat of it alone should be enough to stop the US from doing anything stupid.
I don't think that the US and Pakistan are interested to fight each other over Taliban.

We are not taking them as allies. We take their money and their help, then stab them in the back. Hardly call that being an ally.
And they also stab Pakistan in the back and even the front. It seems that the Pakistan does not benefit overall from her status with NATO.

We do benefit. We get bucket-loads of cash.

This is an argument of mentally slave person....Every nation, and every individual has an option....the problem with slaves is that they do not have faith in themselves....they don't have faith in their God too...because God gives options and opportunities to everyone.
Mia, I would love to see Pakistan having options but we don't have them. If our defenders really have an option they should strike one drone down.

I hope next time you'll probably come well read on the issue rather than using your brainfarts.

Ok, the worst time in the US-Pakistan relationship was in 2011. Both sides pulled through it two years later. Things aren't nearly bad as they were in 2011.

F-16s can still be purchased, no one's denying pakistan those. The FMF funds can still be utilized to purchase other military equipment. For the rest, we just gotta wait it out a little and engage the Americans again next year.

Obama recently mended ties with cuba, and this week further with Vietnam. This is geo-politics. Things that you don't see eye to eye on today can be revisited some other time.
This is not a one off event, this is a result of a long drawn tension between two countries. US's policy has fundamentally changed. US has long cut Pakistan from India and now Pakistan is politically attached with Afghanistan (AF-PAK policy). US will never allow Pakistan any leverage over the more economically and politically fruitful India.

Shooting is the easy part what will happen after it economically and diplomatically is the dettering factor
Well using options has costs and I don't think any cost can outweigh the sovereignty.
