India has had a history of pushing around its smaller neighbors according to its own will and interests...for Bangladesh the only options to get out of this is to get super strong militarily on its own(which is super hard since India is a lot bigger) or the second option would be to work closely with China while boosting its military capabilities drastically. Essentially allow China to encircle India. This would make it a lot harder for India to bend Bangladesh to its will.

এ প্রসঙ্গে পিনাক রঞ্জন চক্রবর্তী বলেন, ভারত তো সাহায্য করছে। ভারত বাংলাদেশকে ঋণ দিচ্ছে, রোহিঙ্গাদের ত্রাণ দিচ্ছে। আমরা মিয়ানমারের উপর চাপ সৃষ্টি করিয়ে দেব, মানে মিয়ানমারের সমস্যা আমরা সমাধান করে দিব- এটাতো হবে না। ওদিকে চীনতো এক পায়ে দাঁড়িয়ে সরাসরি মিয়ানমারের পক্ষ নিয়েছে। বাংলাদেশ ভারতে কাছে আশা করতে পারে কিন্তু এটা সমস্যাটা যে ভারত একাই সমাধান করে দিবে তাতো হয় না।

India is a threat but we cannot depend on a single power to counter it because every country has got their own national interest which may not align with us always. Currently, the popular opinion is we need to stand up on our own feet and build a credible deterrence that would make us capable of facing all sort of threats without relying on others.

that is right. focusing on domestic economy will be far more effective than other approaches. when China started the economic reform, it had a hostile Soviet in the north, eager opportunistic India in the west, an ongoing war with Vietnam in the south. but over the time, stronger economy will lead to stronger military and less pressing neighborhood.

Yes, all these years we have only concentrated on improving the economy and the living standards, we have pulled tens of millions of people out of poverty but in the process we have grossly ignored the much needed expansion and modernization of our military. Now we have realized it's high time to take our military to the position it needs to be to protect our growing economy.
