Reason behind the occupation of Muslim lands

That is the sole reason behind the occupation of Kashmir, Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine & Chechnya.

Thawban (R.A.), one of the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) servants, stated that the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) said:

"Soon the nations will call one another against you, just as people call one another to eat from a platter of food."

Shahaba (R.A.) asked:

"Will this be because we will be few in number, O Messenger of Allah?"

He (P.B.U.H.) replied:

"No, you will be large in number, but you will be Ghuthaa'a like the froth scum on the surface of a body of water, and Allaah will remove from the hearts of your enemies their fear of you and shall place in your hearts Wahn."

Sahaba (R.A.) asked:

"What is Wahn, O Messenger of Allah?"

He (P.B.U.H.) replied:

"The love for this worldly life, and hatred of death." [Sunan Abu Daawood (4297)]

Ironically, it is precisely this love of worldly life (science and technology) which gives the enemies of Muslims all the power over them.

I wish Muslims would have more love of this life, and interest in worldly affairs like science and technology, instead of reciting Qur'an all day.

Yes, but many Muslim leaders view science and technology as a corrupting, infidel influence that takes takes the focus away from ibaadat and towards worldly pursuits. Any success in this world is viewed almost as a sin, while poverty and suffering are valued as bringing one closer to God.

This is the central problem with Muslim societies and why we lag in this world. The Christian world went through this mentality centuries back and reformed its way out of it.

There is also a thought that pursuing science and knowledge will make you understand the Quranic verses better. And help to understand what is written in the Quran, and also make us aware of the beauty of Allah's creations i.e atoms, electrons, Sun, stars, human body etc etc

It shall be state's responsibility to build schools from the compound tax they collect from their citizens.

I don't disagree with that. But if they are not doing this-like you said- then you have to make ways for yourself. God only helps those who help themselves.
