Read China Better: India should boost ties with Taiwan to understand the Chinese mindset

Alright then. Thanks for Aksai Chin, you are welcome to donate more land later. :enjoy:

For now, that huge trade deficit you are paying us every year is good enough. If you want to give up more, you know where we are.

When Germany started to gain territories and victories Germans thought Hitler is the real Hero, but at the end of second world war. The world order changed according to the rules set by USA.

The same idiocy of Hitler is been seen in todays CCP.

It took 2 world wars for them to establish world order and every time Germany is the Villain.

Seems China has the potential to become useful Idiot !

You guys are the ones begging right now. :P

Didn't Modi just tell China he is willing to give us reactor deals and industrial park deals if we do not veto India's NSG attempt? And UNSC attempt?

How is that called begging, Genius?

It's an offer, you may oblige or may not. No big deal.

Clearly, "to understand the Chinese mindset" isn't really the goal. Again, what happened to "NO INDIAN STRATEGIC AFFAIRS"?

Might want to change that one for a start.

Anyway, foreigners have been trying to understand Chinese people for centuries. And they always seem to get it wrong.

Like during the Korean War, nobody on Earth thought that China would intervene and attack the USA + 16 of her allies combined in the Korean peninsula (who represented the UN). They were so shocked, they were pushed into the longest retreat in the history of the US armed forces.

Right after that, China went head-on in various bloody border wars against the Soviet Union. So we were basically fighting the entire world (UN + NATO + Soviets) during the Cold War.

Yet not Taiwan? Despite Taiwan being well in range of even our conventional rocket artillery, meaning we could have covered the entire island with cheap rocket artillery shells without even leaving our shores? We fought directly in multiple bloody wars against both the superpowers (USA + USSR) and all their lackeys combined, but we did not blanket Taiwan with mass produced rocket artillery?

People think just because they've read Sun Tzu that they can understand us. And that's exactly why they can't.

Well said, China is indeed an enigma for everyone and continue to be so for long.

For instance in 1971 Indian generals expected Chinese intervention.
However, must have been really surprised to watch China abandon Pakistan so easily at a very critical time of its break-up.

Four years later in 1975 when India integrated Sikkim, a territory claimed Chinese, there was muted PLA military response except diplomatic cries, despite the same rhetoric used to justify 1962 war.

Fast forward to 2001 Hainan Island incident, when China surprisingly ended up returning the wreckage of American reconnaissance aircraft but also sending the Americans back instead of putting them on trial on espionage charges.

Finally, most recently, Chinese to everyone's amazement accepted Indian NSG waiver despite its negative consequences for its own national security.

I guess China will continue to keep India, USA and rest of the world guessing with more brilliant decisions like above.

We already got the NSG waiver from Hu-JinTao.

Therefore China already gave something to India that it can never give to Pakistan in current timeframe and environment ( plus China isn't even trying to act in the capacity that US did w.r.t Indo-US nuclear deal). Thus can't one say China has already betrayed Pakistan w.r.t nuclear trade? NSG membership is simply icing on this cake that has already been given to India and not Pakistan (by China).

Thats the major reason there is no nuclear power plants in CPEC, China grandfathered chasma expansion from its pre-NSG commitments but it cannot commit to anything new in Pakistan (at least in outright fashion).

NSG membership is overrated (just seeing how many threads have opened up on it)....but it will be funny to see reaction of some members here (if China relents) who have put every ounce of their dignity and hope into China staying firm in saying "no".

You don't know anything about the Korean War.

The US + 16 of her allies had almost completely overwhelmed North Korea before the Chinese intervention.

If they had not gone against China's warning (do not approach the Yalu River), North Korea would not exist today.

Similarly, if India had not gone against China's warning (do not continue the Forward Policy) they might still have Aksai Chin today.

You only lost a big chunk of territory in 1962. You are welcome to try again, to enforce the British drawn lines like the MacMahon line.

Aksai Chin was already in Chinese control in 1955 when Indian troops went to that area for the first time. Main mistake one politicians done was to have accepted CHinese proposal of Aksai Chin for AP. We wont have border problems today.

If only.

There have been many blunders made by our leadership on China.

And China fought the Aliens too...

Everyone knows what the outcome of the Sino-vietnamese war was - it did not turn out well for China. You must be mad to make claims such as " we were basically fighting the entire world". USSR had the ability to vapourise all of China within hours with their arsenal.

Might want to change that one for a start.
