The Rawalpindi experiments were experiments involving use of Mustard gas carried out by scientists from Porton Down of the British military on hundreds of Indian soldiers. Experiments were carried out before and during the Second World War in a military installation at Rawalpindi, now in Pakistan. These experiments began in the early 1930s and lasted more than 10 years.

Since the publication of the story by Rob Evans of the Guardian on 1 September 2007, the experiments are referred to as the Rawalpindi experiments or Rawalpindi mustard gas experiments in the media and elsewhere.

Owner of the project--Porton Down
The experiments in Rawalpindi were part of a much larger project intended to test the effects of chemical weapons on humans. More than 20,000 British servicemen and women were subjected to chemical warfare trials between 1916 and 1989 at the Defence Ministry's Porton Down research centre in southwest England.

Aim of the experiments:

The experiments were done to determine the effects of mustard gas, now known to be highly carcinogenic (cancer causing).
According to documents at the British National Archives in London, British army scientists and doctors tested the effects of mustard gas on Indian soldiers over a ten-year period. Beginning in the early 1930s, scientists at Rawalpindi sent Indian soldiers, wearing shorts and cotton shirts, into gas chambers to experience the effects of mustard gas. The scientists hoped to determine the appropriate dosage to use on battlefields. Many of the subjects suffered severe burns from their exposure to the gas.

Effects on subjects:
These tests caused large numbers of burns, some of which were so damaging that the subjects had to be hospitalized. According to the report severely burned patients were often very miserable and depressed and in considerable discomfort.
No long-term effects of exposure were documented or studied.

Missing information:

The patients were treated at the Indian Military Hospital Rawalpindi now known as the Military Hospital Rawalpindi.
Location:
The exact place where the British Military facility with gas chambers was located in Rawalpindi is not known.
Porton Down view:
Porton Down officials have argued that trials took place in a different era, during a conflict, and so their conduct should not be judged by today's standards.

Someone should investigate this deeper and may found some still living soldiers, With all proofs and documents should sue UK and ask for the compensations for those who effected.

Sick
You mean to say it was British who introduced the idea of gas chamber experiments and it was finally taken to new stage by Nazis?

If it is true then there is a lot of work to be done to remove curtain from unknown crimes of those while demons........

Looks like a fake news

Had this news contained an ounce of truth, the local soldiers who served in British army would have told others and people must have known it before the emergance of this suspicious tweet.

.
The military records are not erased if something happens it becomes part of record no matter how old it is, further if it did happened as given then we can't do anything abt it we were slaves mentally and physically and as nation are still more or less slaves of western powers.

You really think that all those thousands of victims (from Pakistan and India)kept their mouths shut till death about this alleged chemical test?

Guardian seems to have picked it up  That isnt even a tabloid to ignore the news or call it fake!

The Guardian understands that the British military did not check up on the Indian soldiers after the experiments to see if they developed any illnesses.

The trials have been thrown into the spotlight by newly discovered documents at the National Archives which have shown for the first time the full scale of the experiments.

The Indian troops were serving under the command of the British military at a time when India was under colonial rule.

The Indian tests are a little-known part of Porton's huge programme of chemical warfare testing on humans. More than 20,000 British soldiers were subjected to chemical warfare trials involving poison gases, such as nerve gas and mustard gas, at Porton between 1916 and 1989.

Many of these British soldiers have alleged that they were duped into taking part in the tests, which have damaged their health in the years after the trials.

The reports record that in some cases Indian soldiers were exposed to mustard gas protected only by a respirator. On one occasion the gas mask of an Indian sepoy (a private) slipped, leaving him with severe burns on his eyes and face.

Alan Care, a lawyer representing British troops tested at Porton, said: "I would be astonished if these Indian subjects gave any meaningful consent to taking part in these tests, particularly as they were conducted during the days of Empire. No one would have agreed ... if they knew beforehand what was going to happen."

Still it sounds more like a typical "evil colonialists" story (I am against colonialism ).
Most of the Pakistanis who served in British Indian army were from Potohar region and if those tests really happened then I don't see a reason why they are not being talked about in Pakistan which otherwise is known as the land of conspiracy theories.

Tell me how many of us knew about it,millions were killed by British in India, but no one talks about it.
