RAW, US behind AL's 2001 defeat: Hasina

I have always said, people make her more pro-indian then really she is. Her co-operation with India are calculated move. She knows the power imbalance between India and BD.She has taken strategy to extract maximum benefit from a neighbor which is powerful yet very mean minded and insensitive.BNP talked a lot of hot word against India, but they could not solve a single problem in favor of BD.Sheikh Hasina is solving major bilateral issues one by one mostly in favor of BD.Her next mission is Teesta water treaty. She is on a mission to make BD powerful both on economic and military front. With these power diplomatic power will follow, nobody knows this better then her.

And how do you know that? Do you know her or something? I am willing to believe that you have mad connections to come to such conclusions.

Your country is no longer your country. And that my dear countryman is a fact, like it or not.

It was an international conspiracy to gain control over Bangladesh's natural gas that led to the Awami League's defeat in the 2001 national polls, says Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The Awami League chief's remarks came on Saturday while speaking at the National Convention of the party youth front for women, the Juba Mahila League.

The BNP assumed power after the Eighth Parliamentary Election after getting 41.40 percent of votes that helped it win 193 parliamentary seats. Its ally the Jamaat-e-Islami clinched 17 seats with 4.28 percent votes.

The Awami League, which got 40.02 percent votes, had to leave office with only 62 seats in Parliament.

"I wanted to use the country's resources for the people first...Wanted to keep a 50-year reserve, then to consider whether to sell or not.

"What happened? ... The RAW representative, he had been doing rounds at the Hawa Bhaban (Khaleda Zia's political office then). It was the same case for the American embassy's representative," said Hasina.

She claimed that the Awami League was defeated as an outcome of a conspiracy hatched by the countries to take control of the natural gas reserves.
Hasina had said on several occasions after that election that a conspiracy was in the works against her as she had not agreed to sell gas to foreign companies while being in power between 1996 and 2001.

But it's the first time she levelled allegations against India's top intelligence agency the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and the US embassy in Bangladesh and blamed them for her party's defeat.

But many Awami League leaders in private have raised those allegations against the then RAW station chief for being too close to Khaleda Zia's son and for influencing India's decision to back the BNP.

After the BNP won the polls, the then Indian National Security Adviser Brajesh Mishra rushed to Dhaka to congratulate Khaleda and told journalists that India "would not put all its eggs in one basket."

Leaders of the BNP, which now has no representation in the House after boycotting the 2014 polls, have called the government to make public the deals to be signed during the prime minister's upcoming India visit.

Referring to that, Hasina said, "Now we hear so much anti-India statements. I ask today, who promised before the 2001 polls to sell gas to India which the American companies wanted? It was Khaleda Zia... she did that to come in power. Not me.

"And now they come up with anti-India statements."

Hasina said that it was the BNP who agitated against the Farakka Barrage time and again. "You (Khaleda) even organised a long march to Farakka ... And forgot to raise the Ganges water issue during your India visit!"

During her India visit as the prime minister after the 1991 election, Khaleda Zia did not discuss the issue.

"Who's the broker then?" asked Hasina.

BNP leaders have repeatedly blamed the Awami League for protecting India's interest.

The Ganges water treaty was signed in 1996 when the Awami League came in power for the first time in 21 years after the 1975 coup.

After the 2009 polls, the maritime boundary issues with India and Myanmar were solved.

And after the 2014 elections, the land boundary issue was resolved with India.

Hasina said that the post-1975 government of military dictators Ziaur Rahman, HM Ershad and even Khaleda did not address these matters.

"If they are so patriotic, then why didn't they raise the issues," she said. "They behaved like brokers."

I feel like Hasina's days are coming to an end. Why would she take hostile stance against India otherwise? I hope she stays in power though... we need her and the last think I want to see is that broken back rolls royce rider Tariq zia come to Bangladesh and wreck havoc again.

For now even though I am not happy to say this. She's the best we got.

shameful that a prime minister levels allegation directly naming an external intelligence agency of a friendly neighbour and another friendly country(america)...

I'm sure you aren't writing this from Dhaka. If you were - expect a knock at the door in say a couple of hours....a visit by the friendly plainclothes boys at RAB.

Or it could be other way around. That is just playing with public sentiments and pitching herself as "independent-of-Indian-influence" politician?

Which indeed would be a joke. :-)

It is good for India that as many BD people are like doyalbabaji as possible :)

BTW when are next national "elections" due?

She is probably using her deception tactic again to make a clean image before the visit to India. So that nothing heinous happens to her. Many rumors have spread regarding her deals with India. Last time some people loosened nuts of the aeroplane she was in and another time metal debris on the runway. RAW wont be unhappy.

So some years ago she said ISI, RAW and CIA got defeated here.
Can you imagine RAW & ISI working together for a mission.

Just proves how much of BS she is vommitting.

She used ISI name to lighten her accusation that time to still give her massage. She doesn't believe ISI had any hand. Now she is more 'to the point.';)

She didn't use ISI name this time because last time everyone called her crazy for claiming ISI & RAW worked together.

You are all misreading her.

She is in a position where she can tell anything about India . India has no choice other than supporting Hasina, no matter what. She is their only choice. She is just discrediting BNP.

or

Sheikh Hasina is no more in Khaleda's league. She is on her way to become 3rd greatest Bangladeshi leader beside Mujib and Zia . She might be a megalomaniac like her legendary father . Like Sheikh Mujib made a U-turn to ignore Indira's phone call to join Bhutto in Lahore. She might have inherited the gene too.

BUT Hasina did not announce that she will not sign any defense treaty with india - that is the important question of the time NOW.
This is all typical awami legaue and hasina FALSE FLAG drama prescribed by RAW itself. Jut to confuse people about awami league anti Bangladesh action and defense treaty Hasian about to sign. From Peelkhana massacre to transit to Bangladeshi institutions (like armed forces, DGFI, NSI, Bangladesh bank, in all ministries and in policy making bodies, Hasina and awami league installed RAW agents. This is just laughable comments of awami league drama.

May be people here say's that she is not Pro Indian by as far as know what people says to general public is way different what actually happening. She is just trying to remove label of Pro Indian from her because in next election she is not seeing herself in PM seat. US and India can't able to help her now and she lost almost all her support in the country and no body can make 20 to 30 % to 60% and it is simply can't be

It's distrusting to see some people still dancing for Hasina when fact is its beghairat Hasina who sold Bd to India. When these losers will wake up and realize the reality.
