Rajnath calls for radio stations in border areas
NEW DELHI: Home minister Rajnath Singh on Friday asked the Sashastra Seema Bal(SSB) to set up radio communication in remote parts of the country and take the "lead role" in checking the menace of fake indian currency notes.
Singh said the SSB should think about starting FM radio channels in the border areas so that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Man Ki Baat' programme could reach remote locations and, if needed, the home minister himself could communicate with the forces.
Addressing the 'Passing Out Parade' of Assistant Commandants of the SSB in Srinagar, he said the SSB is at the vanguard of porous international borders through which most of the fake indian currency notes are being smuggled into the country.
Singh asked the SSB to remain vigilant about the presence of fundamentalist and anti-India forces in the vicinity of the borders.
"The SSB is actively guarding India-Nepal and India-Bhutan borders and despite being open borders there has been peace on both the fronts," he said, adding that the force's role in anti-insurgency operations in Assam was also very important.
"If necessity arises I can also find time to address our jawans posted in border areas through these SSB-operated FM channels," he added.
The minister also suggested that the SSB can open India cultural centres in border districts to spread the message of nationalism.
