For faster evacuation in case of emergency, doors have been made to swing both ways, this feature will soon be the norm in future coaches.

NEW DELHI: To provide better amenities to passengers, Railways unveiled a new AC 3-tier coach here with state-of-the-art facilities including CCTV cameras, bio-toilets and improved safety features.

The interiors of the coach, with better security and comfort features, have been designed aesthetically, said Railway Board Member (Mechanic) Hemant Kumar.

While CCTV cameras have been installed at the entrance of the coach on both the sides to strengthen the security system, fire-retardant materials have been used to prevent fire as a safety measure.

Manufactured at the Integrated Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, the AC coach is equipped with wider stainless steel ladder with hand-holds for easy climbing to upper berths.

Besides, the coach has also been fitted with braille stickers for the convenience of visually-impaired passengers.

Asked about the cost of the enhanced features, Kumar said an additional Rs 7.2 lakhs were spent to upgrade the coach with better amenities.

For faster evacuation in case of emergency, the door of the coach has been made to swing both ways. The bi-directional swing door is a new feature which is likely to be a norm for all new coaches in future.

This new compartment is the 50,000th coach rolled out from ICF and is likely to be fitted in a train bound for the southern states.

This looks good.

Pakistan is making some GREAT AC coaches for our trains and the new ones really are stunning! A treat to travel in. I hope Railways can improve further on the timing issues and then it will be a perfect way to travel.

Rail travel is easily the best way to travel provided it is clean , comfortable & reliable.

Recent Achievements by Indian Railways -

(01) Rolled out India's First CNG Based DEMU - CNG would help reduce operating costs of locomotives by over 50 per cent - CNG emits fewer toxic and carcinogenic pollutants and zero particulate matter. It also helps reduce carbon monoxide emissions by 90%, carbon dioxide emissions by 25%, nitrogen oxide emissions by 35% and non-methane hydrocarbon emissions by 50%.

Two such CNG-Diesel DEMU's have been commissioned -

(02) Rolled out LNG based Locomotives - the first of its kind in the country - Pulling equal load with same speed, the LNG-based locomotive will cut per unit running cost by 40% compared to the running cost of a diesel engine.

Looks Great! Where does Pakistan Railways manufacture its coaches? And which class/tier are these? (India has the following classes arranged in the decreasing order of luxury - First class, 2 Tier AC, 3 Tier AC, Sleeper, AC Chair Car and Chair Car) - the one above are IR's 3-Tier AC coaches.

We should just stop the production of ICF coaches and go for only LHB ones as They are more safer.

Integral Coach Factory produced a record number of 1,704 coaches during the last fiscal including 239 DEMU coaches, 300 air-conditioned coaches and 65 Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches.

ICF would manufacture 285 LHB coaches in financial year 2015-16 and 600 such coaches in FY 2016-17.

There is very little to compare between the two in terms of passenger experience; LHB coaches are miles ahead - Though ICF ones aren't bad either to stop their production in my opinion - Kyun @anant_s @gslv mk3 ?

And interestingly ICF manufactured LHB Coaches have been upgraded modified from their original German versions - For example trains like Lucknow Mail, have generators which rotate with wheels and the power so produced moves the train. Shatabdi, on the other hand, has two generator cars, one at each ends. Considering that Shatabdi's `upper limit' (maximum number of coaches that it can support) is 20, the two generator cars eat into the train's passenger carrying capacity. Shatabdi's LHB coaches were modified as ICF devised permanent magnet alternators since the dimensions of LHB coach did not let power generators attached to the wheels - This help increase the passenger capacity of Shatabdi Express!

Established in 1986, Rail Coach Factory (RCF), a manufacturing unit of Indian Railways has manufactured around 16,000 passenger coaches of 51 different types including self propelled passenger vehicles which constitute over 35% of the total coaches in the Indian Railways.

RCF is equipped with CAD centre to design and manufacture bogies, (both with stainless steel and corten steel).

RCF has also manufactured coaches for both Rajdhani Express and Shatabdi Express. RCF exports coaches manufactured at its plant in Kapurthala. These coaches will be exported to Senegal.

They call it AC sleeper, which is equivalent to AC 1st class of IR.

Hi

Sir as you said very little difference between passenger experience but the LHB coaches features modern safety features like Antiroll mechanisms. This cannot be done suddenly, but we should work in this direction.
