Railways Land Should be valued as Transit Corridors

Pakistan Railways plans to sell Railways land to pay off their debts. Good idea, except the value of the land is crucial to implementing modernization of transit. The land along the tracks can taken back from the encroachers, and turned into at grade, metro lines. It can initially be bus lines, that only require building a road and a few bus stations, but the connectivity with metro bus and metro train services in the country can be made more efficient. For example, In Multan, an at grade Metro Bus line along the tracks can link the large Bus stand/depot intersection with the overhead Metro Bus line all the way to the Cantt Train Station. Passengers can arrive by train and continue on to their destination by bus with a metro bus shuttle service.

In Lahore it is even more easier to see. The Metro Train Station can be connected with the train station with a shuttle bus, that continues along the tracks to Badami Bagh bus stand (which needs to be modernized), and then under the Lahore fort park to the metro bus station at Azadi chowk.

Railways Land in these crucial corridors and those like it need to be saved for the common good and not sold for real estate developments or left to the enchroachers.

Something like this, but with dividers between the bus lanes and the train tracks. The train would be the standard Pakistan Railways train or the Freight Trains.

I give this idea about 4/5 years ago. the only thing they need to do is do a partnership with some private construction company and let them build 40/50 story business plazas on their Cant Karachi, City Karachi and Lahore railway stations. Take the train stations 30 meters underground. construct buss stations on ground level and then shopping plaza, hotel, and then offices on the remaining floors. PR provides land, private company invests in construction and they share the sale proceeds / rental income based on the agreed value of land and actual cost of construction. This way PR can still be the owner of the land and makes billions from just these three projects.

shiekh Rasheed is using easy methods to reduce loss which is to shrink railway to very small size.when size is reduced loss is also reduced but in long term it will damage Pakistan as railway is of strategic importance for our defense and in war days countries also launch missiles from railway locomotives to avoid radar detection.land should be given for rent and should not be sold

This would be best. All modern cities have the skyscrapers built around transit. We need to advocate the same.

But the idiots in the govt only want the most easiest way out without using their brains.
There is no way these guys are ever going to take a sensible approach to ANY issue.
