What's new

Railways in light of the needs of the army.

I assume you are talking about the US. In which case not only is Underground railways expensive, it is also useless. Cave ins can be engineered at multiple points relatively easily, and they are much harder to repair than overground railways in terms of difficulty, resources required or even time.

. .
Not really. The new bunker buster weapons that US is making seem to be pretty good. this is speculation though whether they would be adequate or not. If they are, then it would have been a huge waste of resources else not.

That has to be coupled with good intel.. knowing where the track runs..
The GBU-28 can make short work of any underground facility.

Railway tracks present a static and very easy target.

Need we say more ?

we are not at war all the itime, that where railways come particularly handy.
these are realy cheap.

i remember watching trains carrying the PA tanks being brough to HIT for conversion to Al-Zarar and even the new one going out to respective units.
thats real cheap compared to tranporting tnks of 14 wheeler trucks.

.
or when they come to COD rawalpindi, or the 501 workshop on lalazar???, although they only take the the type 85 or type 69 to pindi, others are taken to HIT.

does the PR take charge for transportation of this hardware?

.
There are seperate flat cars paid for by PA but maintained by PR including passenger rolling stock. PR in times of war does transport tanks and other heavy vehicles to forward staging areas.

The Army does not like its tanks to travel long distances on their own as it wears down expensive rubber part on the tracks and wheels. In peace time or in war moving tanks on tank transportes is generally done closer to staging areas.
