Rahul to be announced as PM candidate on Jan 17

Nice... BJP managed to get both of their candidates to be nominated for the PM post. One in BJP & other one in Congress!

Things are changing. Dynastic rule is losing it's charm in India. We might have to get familiar with new breed of politics, where you have ordinary people climbing up the ladder & staking claim to lead the country. Let's hope this new trend is here to stay...

Yes the things are changing. Wheels are moving.

I'll believe that when Congress and 10s of other parties allow a non-family members to become the party's top governing council and leader.

You are right. Apart from Congress there are quite a few regional political parties who practice this kind of dynastic politics almost unchallenged. But with the revival of main opposition party & emergence of new grassroot-level parties like AAP will encourage public to do away with this menace, should the non-dynastic parties find favor among the masses.

Dynasty politics is on its way out of India & Pakistan
For eg IK's rise in Pakistan & Arvind rise in India
While I don't like Arvind & his socialist policies
He made an impact that both parties field honest & Hardworking candidates
& you know how much fun is made of Bilwali's in Pakistan

Not sure about Arvind.

But I'll believe your theory the day IK retires in another 5-10 years and hands over the party to a non-family members.

If Rahul wins, he'll become fat and start bombing South Korea too.

This is called Desperation. Its proved that Congress dont care bout people of India and their mood for their leader. They have rejected as a whole for PM candidacy for RG. Still, Sonia Maam wanna showcase that Shes the Queen and KingMaker. Hell will all around.

I think it also shows something about the kind of elections we are having. This time it's definitely more 'Presidential Style'. BJP has been cowed down into presenting a singular leader. That campaign has been effective. Now congress needs a 'personality' to counter it....and their only chance is 'Pappu' :pop:

This Time Mother Sonia will definitely cry..

Congress is making him candidate who was partying abroad during 26/11.... What country India is where Rabri can become CM and Rahul can become ppl...

The issue is with the way we allow the political parties to form in our region.

This is the worst possible way to organize political workers.

When

they form parties based on ethnic or religious bases.

I feel there should be a UN charter against forming a political party that has more than 40% of its governing council (and vote base) from one specific category of a religion or ethnicity or caste. Or it fails to allow non-family people to come to the top.

New Delhi: In a bid to revive party's fortunes after its debacle in Assembly polls conducted in four out of five major states, Congress is expected to declare Rahul Gandhi, who is currently serving as its vice president, its prime ministerial candidate ahead of 2014 General Elections.

According to reports, a formal announcement in this regard is likely to be made during the AICC meeting scheduled on January 17.

Sources claim that the decision to declare Rahul Gandhi as party's PM candidate and end suspense on the issue has possibly been taken keeping in view BJP's stunning victory in major states where Assembly polls were held recently.

Though it is a debatable issue, the main opposition party has given credit to its PM candidate Narendra Modi for its thumping victory in these elections.

There has been a long standing demand to declare Rahul Gandhi as Congress' PM candidate and the clamour grew louder after Sonia Gandhi said the party would take a decision in this regard at an opportune time.

A section of Congress leaders believe that naming Rahul Gandhi as PM candidate could revive party's fortunes in the coming polls.

AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh said the party should ensure that Rahul is declared the PM candidate. Union Power Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who was the chairman of the campaign committee in Madhya Pradesh polls, made the demand immediately after the Congress was routed in Assembly elections in four states on Sunday.

The call for Rahul to be named as the replacement for Manmohan Singh in UPA-3 contrasts with the earlier assessment that a bad performance in the December Assembly polls would discourage Congress from naming a rival to Narendra Modi, who is the BJP's PM candidate.
