No, the Muslims were actually welcomed by the Christian inhabitors of Jerusalem. The Grand Patriach of Jerusalem welcomed Caliph Omar and asked if he wanted to pray in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre to which he declined because he didn't want to set some sort of Precedent which would endanger the church's position as a christian temple.
