What's new

RAB officials get sanctioned by U.S

There will be fair voting in the 2023 election. BAL guys, don' please cry so much.
So let it be written. If BAL wins in 2023 ( of course by another rigged election, as no one expects that BAL win in any fair election) and any pundit say that the election is rigged , they will lose credibility. I saved the message for future evidence!

Btw personally I believe that in 2023 there will be another rigged election and then BAL will fall in 2/3 years and there will be a national unity govt , so that next 2/3 years Bangladesh will be under the govt.

Then maybe fairer ( not totally fair though) election and new party of VP Nur will win and Reza Kibria will be PM!

However I could be wrong, I'm not giving guarantee of anything , as it could be earlier though.

But surely Bangladesh shall have to get rid off from family dynastic politics once and for all and it just be happened in next 5 years; at least the process must be started !

However I sincerely feel that we need national unity for for 2 years even before 2023 election! So that 2023 election shall be fair and Reza Kibria will be prime minister!

Although it's highly unlikely IMHO!

I think part of Bangladesh' paramilitary forces especially parts of RAB were trained either by UK units or US units.

If so - this sanction business NOW is just a political pawn move it seems.

Let's see which option Bangladesh takes, it is a FORK in the road now.

US is betting that Apparel export to US by Bangladesh worth dozens of Billions is great leverage to pressure Bangladesh to change the status quo, whatever it is RIGHT NOW.

That is my humble take after @leonblack08 bhai's comment. Please don't judge me - I am not a good analyzer of events in my limited understanding.

It is exactly that.

RAB and other Elite police units in BD, like SWAT had undergone Counter terror training with US.

US have always condemned RAB since their inception and never took the step to sanction any particular individual. US had placed sanctions on Burmese general immediately after they staged the coup early this year. It does not take decades of Human rights violations for US and the west to place sanction on any individual. Unlike what our resident Hentai expert has been preaching through his illogical rants that it takes years and years to place sanction. No it doesn't. If it matches US narrative and self interest, they will find a way to make it happen fast.

If US really cared about human rights, then Israel could have never gotten away with using white phosphorus on civilians.

The timing of the sanction is the key. US is betting that Bangladesh will succumb to the pressure at the fear of losing US RMG market and give in. On the other hand, China has made it abundantly clear to BD, the consequences of going against China will not be beneficial to Bangladesh and hence openly came out to support Hasina Govt.

I can see 3 possible outcomes of this situation unfolding in the next several months -

1. Hasina gives in to US pressure. Immediately you will see strong condemnation from China and relationship with China souring to an almost irreparable state. We will likely see signing GSOMIA and ACSA signed with US, which they have been wanting to for a long time now. May even see possible US origin military hardware acquisition. And in worst case, some sort of US outpost in BD.

They are doing the same to Cambodia and Sri Lanka. (https://www.khmertimeskh.com/50989327/cambodia-sri-lanka-and-bangladesh-under-us-sanctions-limits-of-the-us-action/) And guess what we have in common with them? Important geographic location and high Chinese influence, which US wants to neutralize.

2. Hasina tilts to the Chinese side. US will continue to mount sanction on the current government. High possibility of forcing a coup to uproot Hasina and replace with a Pro-US government. Hence you will see BNP will happily jump at the opportunity to become Pro-US puppet. Even with BAL, there will be a division, one pro-US and other Pro-China, fighting to stay in power. China has the financial muscle to match up to US manipulation. Either way, this will create political turmoil for BD. Just like it happened in Pakistan.

3. Status quo is maintained - Bangladesh will have to pull off some really shrewd geo-political maneuvers to make this happen. I don't know exactly how we can stay neutral honestly. This is going to be extremely difficult, as China becomes more aggressive and eventually reclaims Taiwan. US would want to counter that by any means.

What a BAL way of lame excuses!!! The USA is not another stupid BD, Decisions take many days/ months of deliberations there. You don't know because your mind lives in the ghetto country called Bangladesh. Nothing bright can enter that.

Trump administration started the sanction process and Biden administration sealed it after long deliberations.

BD is now labeled the same as North Korea. It is all because of BAL/ RAB bullying of people. More than 600 BD opposition people have disappeared after they were taken away by RAB.

Some stupid should also come out with another theory that the USA has sanctioned North Korea also because the former wants the latter to become a part of QUAD. No doubt, the sanctioned China will also now become another QUAD member.

What a stupid theory!!! It is just shameful when someone talks like this. Sanctioning a country means punishing that country that has no democracy and a single party rules over the country continuously by steam-roller.

Yeah yeah whatever.

US couldn't care less about any missing Bangladeshi. Had it been the case, Bangladesh would have been sanctioned a decade ago. Keep believing Uncle Biden is your Messiah. The moment Hasina bows to US self interest, it will be back to square one. Sanctions will go down the drain.

Your frequent demonstration of verbal abuse at other forum members is sufficient to prove that years of living in Japan couldn't help your ghetto mentality. If living in Japan couldn't bring a modicum of civility to you, nothing else can. Period.

RAB is not controlled by the USA. It is controlled by Hasina Bibi. This RAB follows the order of this bitch. America always takes action when a country becomes rogue.

How stupid a logic that because America did not take action before therefore it should not take action now.

It is a typical Chetona logic that cannot be found anywhere in the world. I wish Amerca takes further action if the GoB does not allow a CTG or does not allow UN observer to enter BD during election time.

Great analysis and I do realize that this is bad news on so many fronts. I wonder if the haramis next door had anything to do with this.

Answer is probably affirmative.

If they can't be rich, they won't let anyone else be rich either.

Typical itorer baccha.

Of course they are in bed with Uncle Sam, and US's main chamcha in the region against China. No wonder they are not on sanctions even when they committed atrocities in Kashmir and NE India. So much for US standing up for democracy and human rights. US's selective advocacy for human rights only excite the fools.

I believe the time has come for Hasina to sever all trade relationships with India and change sourcing to other countries.

Even if this cannot be done, we should impose heavy dumping tariffs and tit-for-tat duties on all imports from India alongwith kicking out all Indian illegals sitting in Bangladesh.

This is signal enough that they are trying to f*ck up our future. Ba$tards.

The time has also come to act in coordinated fashion with China, Pakistan and Turkey to counter Sanghi designs and planning which is being orchestrated through US sanctions and arm-twisting. Everyone knows Sanghis are behind these sanctions. No one else benefits except them. In time - tight slaps will be returned. Waqt abhi ayega...

This will only force Bangladesh govt. to act more closely with China to counter India.

Benazir was asking "Why me"? He wanted to say he did his job as a professional when he was ordered to kill or make forced disappearances.

He wanted to mean he was ordered and he obeyed. But a top Police/ RAB officer is not just an orderly to take orders that lack a lawful background. He knew it but he wanted to be a good BAL activist.

Now he is just lying. Let us what Hasina Bibi would now do against these people in order to protect her own image. I think a tug of war has started in the ruling clique.

I wonder why Tareque Siddiqui was not banned as well. And after him what will happen to Hasina Bibi herself.

The video below is an interview with journalist Golam Murtaza. People should not keep on criticizing the USA. Rather, they should prepare themselves for how BD will face further future US sanctions if the BAL govt does not rectify its present policy of hooliganism, killing, and bullying of the opposition.

All the Human Rights groups throughout the Western hemisphere are against the present BD govt because it harasses people. No way, America will back down unless the GoB changes its heart, There is no easy way to get out of the mess.

Hasina will make Benazir a subject of sacrifice (bolir patha) and chop his head off - that is what is expected by US. Just watch.

Of course I doubt removing him (or even the other six) will remove sanctions.

Hasina f*cked with the wrong party when RAB picked up Shahidul Alam of DRIK, the photographer who was a UK citizen. That guy was extremely well connected in Human Rights circles in the US and UK. Not saying this caused the Sanctions, but I'm sure things came to a head and the ball starting rolling at that time in the US administration and they definitely had an excuse to use (at an opportune time) against Hasina to arm-twist.

Village politics gadha idiots using Bangladeshi village feudal tactics against people far more sophisticated than their ilk. Check mate you lose!

Dabar chal chala aeto easy na...

Even changing heart will not change Biden's (or Blinken's) mind on this.

Sanctions are weapons used for gaining specific objectives. We have seen these when US used these against rogue countries like Iran and South Korea who are far more powerful than Bangladesh. Harassment of political opponents (Hasina's Goom-Khoon) was just an excuse to start the process of gaining that objective.

They have no reason to back down unless Bangladesh (Hasina) has any leverage, and she does not. Why would they care?

The arrest and unlawful detention of Shahidul Alam under questionable and shaky pretexts was widely covered in US media, both liberal (NPR) and conservative (Heritage Foundation). It was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back and started the blacklisting of Bangladesh for sanctions.

But we have to realize that just like Hindutva idiots, conservative US outlets like Heritage Foundation run by Neocon and জায়োনিস্ট folks will put their stamp of approval on any administration like Hasina's as long as they seem to be overtly or covertly against Islamists, even if elected under questionable circumstances.
