ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Monday urged the international community to move beyond rhetoric and take meaningful steps in putting an immediate end to the gross and systematic human rights abuses in the Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IoK).

He reiterated that the only solution of Jammu and Kashmir dispute was to grant Kashmiris, the legitimate right to self-determination in accordance with the United Nations Security Council resolutions.

He expressed these views during a meeting with Lee Rhiannon, former Australian senator who is on a six-day visit to Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Foreign office in a press release said.

The foreign minister raised the issue of human rights violations in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IoK) especially in the context of the OHCHR Report on the human rights situation in Jammu and Kashmir which recommended the formation of a Commission of Inquiry (COI).

While highlighting the Indian atrocities in IoK, the foreign minister said since 1989, Indian occupation forces had killed nearly 100,000 Kashmiris; more than 100,000 children were orphaned and 22,000 women had been widowed.

Since 2016 alone, Indian occupation forces had resorted to indiscriminate use of pellet guns and had mass blinded scores of Kashmiri civilians, including youth, women and children, he added.

Qureshi thanked Rhiannon for showing solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and urged her to highlight the atrocities inflicted upon the people of IoK before the international community.

While expressing support for the Kashmiri people, Rhiannon regretted that Jammu and Kashmir remained one of the longest unresolved disputes on the agenda of United Nations Security Council, which had taken its toll on the innocent people of IoK.

She said the international community must take into account the findings of the OHCHR Report on Jammu and Kashmir.

She reiterated that peace and justice was indispensible for the region which could only be achieved with the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in accordance with the aspirations of the people.

The world deserves to know what India has done to the mystical Shangri La

. . . .
Oh they do.

As Long as the average folk is not properly informed. The world will not move for the kashmiris.

It is our duty to present the atrocities undertaken by the Indian state to the average world frequenter.

Governments will always brush these issues aside citing politics swayed by the allure of indian snakecharming

The world still hasn't moved for the Palestinians despite the average folk the world over campaigning for them. Some things have to be done by the self.

What is your suggestion?

Build Pakistan, there is no other option. No one will listen to us until we are a force that can't be ignored.

True indeed.
But development and long standing issues like Kashmir cannot go hand in Hand specially with water Terrorism a major theme.

They can. The nation needs to decide if they will actually do anything about it or not. It is a long process, no doubt, but others have done it. The problem is us, not anyone else.

There is national consensus on kashmir in Pakistan. The governments of the past simply ignored the will of the people.

All governments are judged for their Kashmir policy in Pakistan. Hopefully the newly Formed populist government does better.

One can only hope.

TBH nobody judges the governments on their Kashmir policy. Musharraf after his Kargil stupidity made an even bigger blunder by allowing the Indians to fence the LOC. No one even talks about it.

Regardless, my point was that national consensus on Kashmir is empty as long as it is not coupled with action. And the only action which will ever help the Kashmiri cause is that we grow stronger. In that regard, all Pakistanis have ever done is talk. We have quite efficiently run our economy and society into the ground.

I concur that we need To move Pass the Rhetoric and perform both on diplomatic and Public Level.

One can only guess what has held us as a Nation back on the kashmir issue. Hopefully kashmiris living all over the World Rise up for their Rights and free themselves from the imposed sense of despair in their fight for self determination.

That's never happening. As a whole, we Kashmiri's are the most complacent lot in the world. Look at what the Gilgitis and Baltis did, while we stayed in our houses on empty promises by traitorous nationalistic snakes.
