A senior police officer has been injured in a blast in the south-western Pakistani city of Quetta, police say.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Nizam Shahid Durrani was wounded in the explosion which took place outside his office on Spini Road, police said.
The attack killed one and wounded five others, include Mr Durrani's driver.
Quetta is capital of Balochistan, where insurgents have been fighting for more autonomy. The Taleban are also active in the area.
Quetta has been the scene of frequent bomb attacks targeted against officials and non-Balochi residents or visitors, the BBC's M Ilyas Khan in Islamabad says.
Most such attacks are claimed by ethnic Balochi militant groups who say they are fighting for autonomy, our correspondent adds.
Minor injuries
The bomb was planted in a motorbike parked near Mr Durrani's office and was detonated through a remote control, police said.
Witnesses said the bomb was detonated as Mr Durrani's jeep passed by.
Several pedestrians were hit, and one of them died on the spot.
Police said Mr Durrani received minor injuries and was given first aid at the hospital.
The condition of his driver is stated to be serious.
The motorbike in which the bomb was planted was completely destroyed.
Mr Durrani's jeep was also damaged, its tyres burst and the windscreen was smashed, witnesses said.
As operations chief of Quetta police, Mr Durrani has been involved in dozens of arrests of suspected militants.
Recently, he said he was on the hit list of a number of militant outfits.
