QUEEN Elizabeth II’s entire staff from across the United Kingdom has been summoned to an emergency meeting at Buckingham Palace in London today, according to reports.

Servants will be addressed by the Royal Household’s most senior officer Lord Chamberlain and Her Majesty’s Private Secretary Sir Christopher Geidt in just hours.

The meeting, called suddenly and described as highly unusual by royal watchers, has sent Britain’s rumour mill into a concerned frenzy.

It’s currently the middle of the night in London.

There is speculation that the announcement is to do with either the Queen or her husband the Duke of Edinburgh’s health.

Social media has erupted in panic with many offering theories about the announcement, from abdication to far more serious issues.

The Mirror reports that even the most trusted of staff have been left in the cold as to what the meeting will be about.

“Although meetings involving the entire royal household are occasionally called, the way this has been done at the eleventh hour is highly unusual and suggests that there is something major to be disseminated,” Mail Online reported.

Buckingham Palace has declined to comment.

The Queen has just returned to Buckingham Palace from an extended visit to Windsor over Easter.

Prince Philip was seen yesterday when he opened the new Warner Stand at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Wednesday.

Household staff from as far as Balmoral in Scotland have reportedly been included in the roll call.

The Queen and Prince Philip both took ill over Christmas and missed some public engagements, which raised concerns about their health.

However both recommenced some of their normal duties in recent months.

Prince Philip has suffered health scares in the past, including a heart problem and bladder infection.

Her Majesty marked her 91st birthday last month and Prince Philip turns 96 in June.

Likely passing of the guard to new King , the lady has to retire for health reason understandable

Funny how she is a "Queen" , while he is just a "prince" :P

Because King is a higher position than Queen. If she lets him take the title King, it is no longer the House of Windsor it is some Greek dynasty now.

It ceased being the house of Windsor since the first female ascended the throne of England.

Queen of England is also Queen of Australia. I hope she is well and in good health.

As an Australian, Queen Elizabeth II is our queen as well. I hope she's well.

As an Australian of Indian origin's I find no use of being under the umbrella of the monarch, esp in this day and age. As human being they have my sympathies but I would like to see Australia become a republic, standing on its own feet.

This might be a catalyst to render the commonwealth a useless body, not that is it not already.

Hell no, if Prince Charles becomes the King, we will have Comilla as the Queen.

There is no cause for alarm about the welfare of Queen Elizabeth or her husband Prince Philip after all senior royal staff were summoned to a meeting at Buckingham Palace on Thursday, a well-placed source told Reuters.

The Daily Mail newspaper had reported that senior aides from across the country had been called to the palace for an emergency meeting, leading to wide speculation on social media about the health of the royals.

"There's no cause for alarm," the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Reuters.

The queen, the world's longest-reigning living monarch celebrated her 91st birthday in April. Philip turns 96 next month.

Elizabeth met Prime Minister Theresa May on Wednesday to formally agree to the dissolution of parliament ahead of June's election while Philip opened a new stand at Lord's Cricket Ground in central London.

The Mail reported that the royal staff would be addressed by the Lord Chamberlain, the most senior officer of the Royal Household, and the queen's private secretary Sir Christopher Geidt. The BBC said the meeting would take place at 10 a.m. (5.00 a.m. ET).

Buckingham Palace had no comment on the Mail report but the source said such all-staff meetings did occur occasionally. There was no detail about what the meeting would address.

Elizabeth ascended to the throne in 1952 and polls show she remains hugely popular among Britons. She and Philip are due to celebrate their platinum, or 70th, wedding anniversary in November.

Despite their age, the couple continue to carry out hundreds of official duties although they have cut back on their workload in recent years, passing on many responsibilities to son and heir Prince Charles, and grandsons, Princes William and Harry.

The queen missed a traditional Christmas church service last year for the first time in decades due to a heavy cold and was hospitalized in March 2013 with symptoms of gastroenteritis, the first time she had needed hospital treatment in a decade.

While her father, George VI, died at 56, her mother lived until 101 and was still appearing in public almost up until her death in 2002.

Philip underwent "an exploratory operation following abdominal investigations" in 2013.

He was also hospitalized for a bladder infection during the queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations the year before, and spent Christmas 2011 in hospital where he underwent an operation to clear a blocked heart artery after suffering chest pains.
