Qatar to Use Iran’s Kish Island for World Cup 2022

December 16, 2017

Qatari Football Federation officials are planning to visit Iran’s Kish Island to prepare the grounds for the Persian Gulf resort’s hosting of Qatar 2022 World Cup teams.

Iranian Football Federation officials have invited president of the Qatar Football Association, Sheikh Hamad al-Thani, to visit Kish Island in southern Iran to see the possibilities of setting up camps for 2022 World Cup teams.

Sheikh Hamad has welcomed the proposal, but due to a lack of direct flights from Qatar to the island, the Qatari official may travel to Kish with a dedicated flight or a ship from Doha.

As soon as the dates for 2022 World Cup are confirmed, Iran would be informed about the details, the Varzesh3 news website said in a Farsi report.

Sheikh Hamad al-Thani also promised to send a high-level delegation representing the 2022 World Cup executive committee to visit Kish Island in a bid to take care of any possible lack of facilities.

Mehdi Taj, president of the Iranian Football Federation and his deputy Ali Kaffashian on Thursday made a trip to Qatar. During the visit, two MoUs were signed between Iran’s Football Federation and Qatari Football Association.

Based on one of these MoUs, Kish Island could be a tourist destination for the 2022 World Cup spectators. At the same time, it seems that a direct flight from Doha to Kish will be provided so that the island could accommodate spectators.

The Qatari side also agreed to provide Iran’s men and women national teams at all levels with special facilities and equipped academies

What a joke. There are several more beautiful islands within the GCC alone let alone the entire Arab world. For instance KSA has 2500 + islands. The most in the region. Tropical, volcanic, mountainous, sandy etc. Nothing comes close in the region.

The Qatari regime is aiding a hostile and anti-Arab entity who spreads terror, violence and backwardness in the Arab world. They should be ashamed of themselves. I want to see that happening before I will believe it. Qataris have no love lost for Mullah drones.

95% of all Qataris are originally from KSA including the ruling family.

A wise rival is better than a brother who back stabs you during ramadan.

Mullah's have never been wise. If they were their country would not have a smaller economy than small UAE, a isolated and sanctioned pariah state and having 30% unemployment rate, a currency worth less than used toilet paper and sky-high inflation.

You are not an Qatari native I am afraid but a Pakistani expat. So you should not talk in the name of Qatar and Qataris with all due respect. 95% of all Qataris, including the royal family, are originally from KSA. We have no problem with Qatar or Qataris (our brothers and sisters) but the current Qatari regime and its policies.

There is no backstabbing. Backstabbing is creating unrest in brotherly neighborly countries and other Arab countries and signing deals that are later broken after a similar dispute where Qatar was given every chance to correct its wrong and harmful ways. If anything it was a well-needed message that has already had the necessary impact and that is just the beginning.

The funnies thing is that the Qatari regime and the Iranian Mullahs are now, apparently, "best buddies" while just 7 months ago both their propaganda outlets were at each others throats 24/7. A funny world indeed however what will always remain is geography, history and blood and the fact that Iran and Farsis are no friends of Arabs and never will be. Most Qataris understand this and those who do not will eventually.

^ I've been in qatar since my birth. which is what? 30 years ? So Cut your rants. You wanna gauge qatari sentiments, go to twitter. You can see their feelings for their Back stabbing saudi brothers and showing their gratitude towards Iran.

A regional rivalry and you have to sanction Qatar that too in Ramadan ? that is worst kind of betryal. Thanks to Iran and Turkey. We have come out of this backstabbing strong . Qatari regime has every right to follow their own policies just as Saudi is following their policies vis a vis Yemen.

Whatever Iran shortfall is, they proved one thing. They are not going to backstab qatar and will help qatar in their hour of need.

That does not make you a Qatari native. Not even a citizen.

Qataris on Twitter are parroting the official regime version of events as otherwise they risk losing their citizenship, imprisonment or social isolation. You know, Qatar is the only country in the GCC that has a tendency (along with Bahrain) to strip locals of their passports if they disagree with regime policies.

Back in 2010, 10.000 citizens lost their citizenship due to dubious reasons.

Yes, Qataris have suddenly become in love with a historical enemy that hates Arabs and wishes us harm. Nice joke.

Yes, the same Yemen that Qatar was engaged in side by side with KSA and UAE until a few months ago. The same Yemen war that Al-Jazeera was hugely in favor of until the regime told them to do otherwise after the Qatari withdrawal. A joke and nothing less.

There is no betrayal when you are the party that has broken agreements time and time again. That is betrayal.

If Qatar disagreed they should not have signed the deals they did or agreements. If they do not want to be a part of the GCC they should leave it and not undermine it. However that tiny peninsula cannot leave its geography or the fact that it is home to 330.000 natives of which 95% are originally from KSA.

We are talking about sentiments and how qatris view the Saudis and UAE. What it has got to do with me being a native or not ?

I mean, My Dear Sir, Your rants have nothing to do with what local Qatari on ground feel about you or UAE. Don't believe me, come to Qatar and ask them yourself. Until then, stop parroting and going on tangents and start describing what Qataris feel or not does not feel when you dont have any evidence or neither on ground to gauge their sentiments.

Are you seriously going to tell me that Qataris (of which 95% including the royal family are originally from KSA) hate KSA? Is that what you are trying to do? What Qataris on Twitter are doing (as I told) is parroting the regime line which people from KSA, UAE and Egypt and elsewhere also do including on this forum. That's besides the point. But for you (a non-native and a non-Arab) to imply that Qataris now out of a sudden hate Saudi Arabians and Emiratis is the biggest joke out there and I question your claim of having lived in Qatar all your life when you imply such nonsense.

The current dispute is due to political differences of each regimes. It has nothing to do with people to people relations.

I don't need to go anywhere. I am part of some of the largest Arab military forums where all of us Arabs interact, including Qataris, and discuss recent events. As well on Twitter and other social media.

Anyway it is amazing that you talk about betrayal as a non-Qatari when it is Qatar and nobody else that has not kept what they have signed themselves or spoken about themselves. That is betrayal. Sending a message to the richest state on the planet is not. And it has already been working.

Of course I understand that you are not going against the regime line in Qatar as you risk deportation but that is besides the point here.

Kish Island is a visa free zone.
(It's frequently used by foreigners to renew their GCC visa.)
It's not just any beautiful island.

.
@waz @The Eagle trolling and derailing is going on in this thread.

Anyway, is there a precedent for a country hosting the world cup to have the accommodation in a different country?

.
What has this to do with my initial post? I assume that the Qatari national football team (despite naturalizing a bunch of non-Qatari Arabs and Africans like they love to do in all sports as the only GCC country along with Bahrain - pathetic if you ask me) are not migrants that need to renew their non-existing GCC visas nor do they need to visit some Iranian island when they can visit 1000's (literally) of more beautiful ones within the Arab world of which many have better facilities.

This is just tiny Qatar trying to annoy its Arab neighbors and nothing else. Recently they have loved to do such publicity stunts.

I highly doubt that it will even occur.
It will most likely occur.
Regardless of politics, Kish has always been used by foreigners in Arab countries, especially UAE.
Iran decided to develop the island mostly for this specific reason.
Only last year did UAE make some changes to the rules, and it was not for political reasons, rather economic.

Which GCC island would Qatar use where their international guests can have visa free entry and which hosts an infrastructure specifically developed keeping this in mind!
It's just the easiest thing.

Do you have your head in the sand?
Have you been paying attention to world politics? What?

Have you understood how GCC is blockaded Qatar. Do you honestly think Qatar will host anything in a country whose trying to starve them to death by blocking food from land and sea?

Why don't you cry to your best buddies in Jerusalem while pretending to help Palestinians retake their lands.
