I never knew Putin took such an active interest in Latin America in all these years. Considering that Buenos Aires has a big historic grudge against those who support the UK, this will look good on Kirchner government's cards.

I am hopeful that Argentina would join BRICS.

Russia has very close ties with Venezuela Uruguay Brazil Cuba Nicaragua Bolivia and Argentina. There are others but these are on the top of their list.

Russian President Vladimir Putin attended an official lunch with Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff at the Itamaraty Palace in Brasilia on Monday.

Rousseff made a toast to Putin following the meal, after which both leaders spoke briefly. Putin then left with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to the city of Fortaleza.

This year's summit theme is "Inclusive Growth; Sustainable Development". The summit attendees will discuss initiatives supporting economic growth, peace and stability in BRICS and developing countries.
