Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the application of certain special economic measures to ensure the security of the Russian Federation.
Putin banned within a year to import into Russia agricultural products, raw materials and food from countries that have adopted sanctions against Russia, RIA "Novosti".

yes. I agree .With the likes of markusS or the american members. They can't see the world war which is coming and the abyss it will drag the west into .I can only hope that there be a coup in EU or USA so that the current trajectory stops or else billions will die. Already Putin's Tu-214R's have been flying non-stop (these are military command centers and only become airborne in extreme situations. ) The last time something like this happened was 1962 cuban missile crisis.

Economically speaking, Russia is basically nothing. The only part that might hurt is if they shut down the gas exports - but even that won't happen any time soon since they are even more dependent on those exports than the EU is.
And if it does happen, it will be 3-5 years in the future when new transit pipes are build (if they're build, that is) towards China. By that time EU would have already moved to alternative sources, so it's irrelevant.

Anything else is hot air and nothing more than a pinch towards the EU - well offset by the need to stop Russian expansions & the need to contain Russia and exclude any influence they might have in the Black Sea region.

You guys should get used to it, sanctions will continue, Ukraine will be lost and Russia isolated. I think that the western world has reached a conclusion: Russia can't be viewed as a reliable partner, therefore...

Indeed, we cannot let Putin off lightly. I am sure the burgeoning shale industry in the US and Canada can supply Europe if needs be. Many countries have large storage facilities. Furthermore I don't think the UK gets any of its gas from Russia.

And the LNG liquidefaction facilities in USA will only come online after 2020. Plus shale gas cost of production and liquifying is 8-10$/mcf.
