Kharian Punjab Pakistan
in east Punjab we don't measure a person by his religious affiliation. Our society is a secular one. For us a Punjabi poet no matter what religion he may follow is equally respect worthy whether he is a Sikh, Muslim or Hindu. That is why poetry by Punjabi Muslim saints are just as revered as poetry written by Sikhs and Hindus. And Baba Farid's writings has a special place since it is part of Sikh religious scripture. They are more popular in West Punjab, where their kalam is practised by the vast majority of Punjabis as tasawwuf teachings in Islam. And you would certainly not want to practise their teachings in east Punjab because Sultan Bahu was a Hanafi Sharia scholar, and Baba Farid was an even bigger Hanafi Sharia scholar. They were 100% adamant on following Sharia Law.
We also communicate with other Indians in Hindi but Punjabi language has also been given it's due status as the official state language and this happened with great struggle and sacrifice where many died and courted arrest for the rights of their mother tongue in a struggle known as Punjab suba movement. Today every Punjabi child is taught Punjabi but also Hindi.Sir you are 100% wrong about west Punjab. Yes we don't have Punjabi as official language because we have to communicate with other ethnic groups on daily basis. Pakistan is as not big as India where South Indians can get away by only learning Tamil.
Pakistan is a lot more integrated, for exemple upper punjab people are more likely to see and interact with pathans of KPK then South Punjabis.
