LAHORE: Earlier this month, a fire broke out in Awami Markaz building in Islamabad’s red zone, in which record pertaining to CPEC and federal ombudsman was destroyed. 2 lives were lost in the incident as well. An inquiry commission, headed by Captain (retd) Ijaz Ahmad was formed to investigate the matter; however, it seems that little conclusive is going to come out of it.
In the last 2 decades, a tenfold increase has been seen in governmental buildings being set on fire in order to bury evidence of corruption. As a result, governmental documents worth millions have turned to ashes in these various incidents.
Various law enforcement agencies and organisations including NAB, FIA and Police have been unable to nab the culprits who have set these buildings on fire. The buildings that have been targeted in these incidents include LDA Plaza, civil court, Bait-ul-Mal, income tax, state office, revenue offices, Parliament House and high court. Several lives have also been lost in these incidents.
According to details, on November 9, 1993, a sudden fire erupted in the Parliament House, causing considerable damage to the building and some valuable documents of the Parliament, including evidence of corruption as perpetrated by important personalities. An inquiry committee was formed which settled the issue by saying that the fire was caused by a short circuit. Similarly, in July 2010, in China Chowk Shaheed-e-Millat Secretariat, a fire occurred on the 13th floor, and wasn’t put out until it destroyed the record placed in the basement. A great amount of precious documents were lost in this incident as well but it was termed a random occurrence and a silence was later observed on the issue.
Pinpointing wrongdoings: ‘Track of corruption destroyed by burning records’

LAHORE:
The ruling party is involved in corruption of billions of rupees in megaprojects under way in Punjab and people involved in the scandals are smartly removing traces by burning records.
These allegations were levelled by Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Mehmoodur Rasheed on Sunday while speaking during an event organised to review the performance of the provincial government.
Mehmood pointed out the Auditor General of Pakistan had unearthed Rs2 billion illegal payments in its audit report regarding Lahore Metro Bus. He said people responsible for the embezzlement had burnt records in LDA Plaza fire in 2014 to save their skin.
As per the National Accountability Bureau report, he said, over Rs750 million were embezzled in Danish Schools. Similarly, Rs70 million were wasted in laptop scheme, while Rs30 billion were embezzled in Sasti Roti Scheme and most of the record had been destroyed. “Nandipur Power Project is another example of ruling party’s corruption,” he maintained.
He said Punjab was on top in corruption and lawlessness. “There is no system of health, education and provision of clean drinking water as these basic necessities are not on the government’s priority list,” he said. “Public money is being spent on roads, bridges and luxuries of rulers.”

Destroying Nandipur Project records
https://www.pakistantoday.com.pk/2016/12/09/destroying-nandipur-project-records/
The Nawaz Sharif government is in the dock on various charges of corruption. The hottest case under judicial microscope is the Panama scandal involving money laundering through off shore companies. In the past too references against the Sharif brothers have been submitted by their political opponents. In 2012, the then government of Pakistan People’s Party and its Interior Minister Rehman Malik submitted a case of money laundering to the tune of US $ 32 million.
It is to the good luck of the Sharifs that to date none of the charges of corruption have been proved, owing to lack of evidence. Whether the Panama Scandal will result in the guilty verdict or not, time will tell. The case and the money trail is being diligently followed but there are a number of gray areas too, which may get the Sharif family the benefit of doubt. No Pakistani sitting government in the past has been convicted of financial wrong doings. Records mysteriously disappear, get destroyed or are tarnished, with no apportion of blame.
Take the case of the scandals in Nandipur Power Project, which is a 425 MW (with potential of 1,000 MW) combined cycle thermal power plant situated at Nandipur near Gujranwala in the Punjab province of Pakistan. It was constructed by the China Dongfang Electric Corporation and was completed in March 2015. The estimated cost of the project was Rs. 23 billion ($574 million) when it was announced, which according to the government of Mian Nawaz Sharif, escalated to Rs. 57.38 billion due to alleged delay and negligence of the previous Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)
GUJRANWALA: Security in-charge Captain (R) Mehtab Alam was removed from his post after unidentified intruders destroyed the record of oil purchases and multi-million rupees’ worth of payments in the security office of Nandipur power project in Gujranwala in mysterious circumstances on Thursday night.
The incident took place at midnight at the office of the Assistant Director (Security) Captain (R) Mehtab Alam in the admin building of the project, sources said. Mehtab Alam has been replaced by Captain (R) Aftab.
A four-member investigative team has reached Nandipur to look into the incident, sources said. The team is reportedly made up of senior officers who have been working on the Muzaffargarh power project.
A case has been registered against ‘unknown persons’ regarding the incident.
The incident, when it came into the officials' knowledge next morning, caused panic among the staff of the power project which was deemed as secured. Officials of intelligence agencies, Rangers, police and Elite Force are posted at the project to ensure foolproof security. It is considered impossible for a layman to trespass such high-level security. Even VIPs have restricted access to certain portions of the project.
Yet despite the stringent security measures, some unidentified persons reportedly entered the office of Assistant Director Security Captain (R) Mehtab Alam at around 3:30 am and tore apart papers from important files and destroyed the records, the sources said.
The project administration immediately informed the district administration and police authorities about the incident. Police have initiated an inquiry into the incident.
Officials of the forensic lab of the district police reached the project site with their equipment. The officials collected fingerprints and other samples from the crime scene. The officials, while avoiding to speculate on the incident, have said that the culprits would not escape from the grip of the law.

Corruption at its peak. Looks like PML-N destroyed the files before the records could be found for their corruption, just like Metro Bus Files and LDA Files were conveniently burned during a fire. What a Shame
