Because you can't control the outcome. Deaths are part and parcel of it. You can't avoid deaths if you allow this festival
I am NOT talking about basant! I am talking about general kite flying. They have banned general kite flying!!! That is not fair

You need give people things to do in their spare time, things to look forward to. Makes a more peaceful society. Not everything has to be based around religion. Its okay to do fun things. What is there to do in Pakistan apart from eat in the evenings?

Need cinemas, arcades, theme parks, water parks, art galleries etc.Ever played ping pong in a bar with drinks or darts. Arcade with a bar? People have fun around the world not just eat and get fat.

You are a crazy libturd comments incoming .....

In all seriousness though some of my best childhood memories revolve around kite flying with my cousins on our rooftop. Nobody even slightly thought of this event as having any religious significance. It was part of our culture. Unfortunately in the eyes of some Pakistanis our culture is terrible and we should live like desert dwellers from medieval arabia.

pakistani awam nhi sudhry gi bhai

Basant was banned after nation learned some very hard lessons, just rewind back and remember the musharraf era, when basant was at its peak, the terror of the game was such that i saw wires at sides of the roads fitted for the sole purpose that door should not fall at roads plus for the protection of high tension electricity wires & transformers, electricity break down was a norm in Lahore during basant days, Wapda had to face huge losses.

The bikers were terrified due to so much deaths, and injuries to the kids and themselves, they had to apply measures at their bikes like wires shown in below picture to avoid accidents, still after doing all this & strict actions by govt against culprits the accidents were happening frequently, the people were worried, it was a total mess, so after all this the govt and the people, they learned their lessons the hard way and banned this harmful festival.

Now a govt worried due to its bad performance needs a way out, and trying to covert a non issue into major issue, in order to divert people's attention from govt's failures & ineptness.

Lahore's population is in crores, you just can't control people, God Forbid, bad things will happen, and aam awam will pay the price...

You simply can't control people, Musharraf tried and banned the chemical door and he had done it very strictly, but still culprits used the chemical door, i still remember reading news of kids dying on bikes, due to door injuries to neck, i saw pictures of parents crying with their kids in the laps in blood, this game 'basant' must not be unleashed again, Any sports that can harm human life in any way, must be banned, You can't compare kite flying or Basant with Cricket etc. just compare the frequency of accidents, kids/people on bikes getting injured or dying. people felling down from roofs etc.

I mean lets not make this issue political, To me any party or any govt if restores this basant festival will be calling back the old ghosts, this is a very dangerous game and must remain banned.
True! its the people who have actually spoiled the festival, most likely BEYOND the point from where it can be restored. Unless the government can come up with absolutely fool proof and guaranteed system to ban chemical door (synthetic cord) there should be ban on kite flying.
Another thing that can help is to put that protective rod on the motorcycles during the whole month. However questions remain that while we have not been able to make our public wear a helmet or seat belt how successful we can be to make them put in that protective wire on the bike!!! Lets first get the first two things sorted, if we can do that then gov. may think of making the wire compulsory for a month and banning chemical dor etc and then think to allow basant. Will take 5-6 years at least. Again, its the people who will need to act responsibly and reasonably here more than the authorities.

Dont forget, it was a huge industry and a big festival that circulated loads of money. IF WE CAN revive it after making sure there is no risk to public safety than great.

That's really interesting info buddy. Can you post a photo of that motorcycle safety rod please? Tons of such accidents in India as well. Deaths too.

Cheers, Doc
