Punjab govt to establish correctional facility for militants
By Arif Malik
LAHORE: The Punjab government on Wednesday decided to establish a correctional facility for suspects belonging to proscribed organisations.

Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif approved a Rs240million grant which would be utilised to establish an academy where scholars and ulemas of different schools of thought would educate and train the radicalised activists in order to return and re-integrate them into society.

At least 1,300 persons would be enrolled in the rehabilitation program in its first phase.

A similar de-radicalisation centre, the Mishal school in Swat, is already being run by the army in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Good to see CM growing some brains ....better late than never!

Don't think those who are grown with being brain washed daily and fed with wrong ideas day and night can be taught and brought back to society like this. Hope this turns out to be a good move.

Firstly, Arif Malik does not name which militants he is talking about and from which group. It could be because of avoiding sectarianism, as the Pakistan Army itself includes numerous deobandis and other groups like Ahle Hadith within it ranks, who on the other hand do not support terror.but fight against terror.

Shahbaz Sharif should begin by performing such programs in each and every seminary of the deobandis and other groups like Ahle Hadith / jamat e islami in Punjab.

Too much money being wasted , simple solution rope and hanging

Can't teach old horse new tricks, the minds are corrupt and destroyed

They will just be replaced by others. And they are not horses but human beings who can be reasoned with. They are probably fathers, sons, brothers of someone. We as Muslims have to show mercy to our enemy.

We cannot have a solution like @Hyperion suggests for genocide in Pakistan. Muslims do da'wat of Amr bil Ma'roof wa Nahi 'anil Munkar.

I am really glad that the Pakistan Army is such an excellent Army with love for Deen in the hearts and respect like a spiritual Diya

The seminaries in Punjab and Karachi, no matter how small, where the "militants" get their ideology from must be de-radicalized.

It should be made mandatory for everyone aged under 25 to attend this.

We can't afford another lost generation of youth who become useless crazies.
