Punjab government has decided to end the subsidy on fares of the metro bus service operating in the province, Express News reported.

According to Punjab’s Finance Minister Makhdoom Hashim Bakht, Rs12 billion subsidy is being given every year for Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi metro buses.

Hashim said that fares of the metro bus from Shahdara to Gajju Matta would be decided based on each stop. He added that by rationalising of the fares, the public would not have to bear the brunt of cost with the government subsidy also decreased.

The minister said that as per the vision of the Prime Minister Imran Khan, a comprehensive strategy has been devised to provide the youth employment, adding it will be rolled out soon.

Hashim said that registration fee will be reduced for small imported cars, and increased for large ones. Farmers, he added, will be provided loans on soft terms, while health insurance cards will be issued to the public for free medical care.

Earlier, on October 1, a forensic audit team of the provincial government arrived in Rawalpindi to conduct an audit of the metro bus project built to connect the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi

Baboon leagis dont represent all of Punjab look at the map of punjab pti has won more area in punjab while pmln has beem restricted to districts around Lahore as for metro that wont be a problem outsude two or maximum three seats of Lahore(that werent stromg to begin with)
We tend to overestimate impact of metro sure it made life easier for commuters but it really didnt translate imto votes proof is removal of pmln from north punjab

IMO, Govt. should put hefty taxes on cars (of all types) and other vehicles so more people tend to use public transport reducing oil import bill and air pollution in addition to an increase in govt revenue.

I think govt is reducing the subsidy ...pass some loss to passenger . Everything in Pakistan is running in loss. Anthing in profit ...not that i know

seriously?

One: we dont have a proper, well connected mass transit system.
two: you want to destroy the auto industry and cause massive unemployment?

Metro benefit certain portions of cities only

good move lanti nawaz shahbaz were taking loans from IMF to keep running these buses

Good move, BRTs are basic need of mega cities but it shouldn't be subsidised when we don't have resources to do so.

I was personally really looking forward to this. Good Job.

Agreed we need 1 in place, before we can do 2.

As for the subsidy, theyre right to remove it. It should be run at cost price, not using taxpayer money.

This is a good move by the Govt. as Pakistan cannot afford any subsidies & all the previous subsidies were given because of massive loans taken by corrupt & incompetent previous Govts.
