A senior functionary of Islamic seminary Nadwatul Ulema in Lucknow has written a letter to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav asking him to formulate a policy for punishing and discouraging people who issue communal statements.
The rector of Nadwatul Ulema, Rabey Hasan Nadwi, who is also president of All India Muslim Personal Law Board, has referred to alleged derogatory comments against Prophet Muhammad issued by one Kamlesh Tiwari, who claims to be office bearer of Hindu Mahasabha.
“On behalf of staff and teachers of Nadwatul Ulema, I strongly condemn his statement. He crossed all limits. Your government acted quickly and sent him to prison. But, it does not dilute his crime as the issue will be reason for strong reaction not only in UP or India but in the whole world,” Nadwi said in his letter.
He also mentioned that the Muslims anywhere in the world cannot tolerate any act against the Prophet. “…such incidents result in inciting Muslims…every government should make a policy for strong punishment to such people,” the letter reads.
Referring to several controversial statements from various political and religious leaders, Nadwai said such people are becoming threat to peace of the country. “It is duty of the government to take legal action against such people and punish them and prevent them from becoming threat to the peace of the country,” he stated.
Earlier, Muslims had protested against Tiwari’s statements after Friday namaz in various districts of the state. At Bijnor, Jamiat Shababul Islam’s general secretary Maulana Anwarul Haq announced reward of Rs 51 lakh on Tiwari’s head. At Deoband, students of Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband too had staged protest.
