Finally a fine soul has uploaded the whole Pakistan Television's classic drama serial 'Deewarein' on You Tube. The serial is from the 80's, was filmed in Zia's repressive rule. It shows the feudal and rural Sindh--which probably is still not changed enough despite almost three decades.
It is a fascinating, and often surprising story to even the city-dwelling Pakistanis, portrait of the feudal society of Pakistan. Of treachery. Of love. Of courage. Of 'traditions' (read: misogyny). Of tragedy. Of grave injustice. I highly recommend all watch it from the beginning to the end--all 15 episodes. It's in Urdu--with heavy sprinkling of Sindhi (and Seraiki?) in it.

My question: What is song is this, starting minute 35 or so, from the 5th episode? I mean who is the lady singer? What language (Sindhi?)?
Thank!

Anyone who can answer my original question? My guess has been Mai Bhaagi singing in Sindhi? I looked for her songs on You Tube but didn't find this particular one from the 5th episode of 'Deewarein'.

I think only Sindhi peoples can help you finding this song as i dont even know what she is singing..can you give title of this song?

soney beepaar? :D

.
I don't know the title! This is like Latin to me. Shame on me! We Karachiite learned Sindhi through grade-six in schooling and I ought to know more. May be it is not Sindhi after all or if it is then the song itself is hard to understand, some how. Yeah, excuses, excuses, excuses!

But dude..... seriously only 2 in past decade?

there are more, with some really good storyline and music but I always found some flaws in the story telling. But these two, Sawan in '01 and Moorat in '04, are really some of the best storytelling of recent times.

edit: Jinnah (needs no telling how great it is) and Dastaan. Dastaan came out last year, period drama, set during partition time, is one that stands out a lot.

Cant say about the singer but the language is for sure Sindhi.. Lyrics goes like this....

"MO MEN AEB APAR AAOON TA SAJAN TUHNJI GOLRI AAHIYA"

Male version.....

Looks like there are some new ones for an old-timer like me should be watching soon. My next to-watch is PTV's 'Karavan', also set in the 80s. But I will try to add some of what you have mentioned above.
Pakistani tv dramas in the 80's were truly brilliant. At a time when there was only one television channel--and that too controlled by Zia's ideological confines--they produced some great shows. One more memorable one is 'Piyas' (also on You Tube) which even managed to ask for 'democracy' at a time when Zia had all bad made 'politics' and 'democracy' as ugly words.

it's probably one of those local folk songs, local folk singers, who recieve very limited exposure. Recently a single episode drama was aired of Fahad Mustafa where a British-Pakistani girl comes to visit her villiage in Sindh. Fahad plays a local boy, who listens to music (local sindhi music) on his little boombox all the time. I dont understand Sindhi but It was some of the best tunes I ever heard. I even DVR'd it, but I dont know if I still have it.
Anyway, you'll have a hard time finding that song, best bet is hope Rohail Hayat hears the song, finds a local artist and put him on the next season of Coke Studio.
