PTI to declare Education emergency in Pakistan on assuming power

@ Leader,

I have been thinking about education system in Pakistan and it is heartening to note PTI is planning to do something about education in Pakistan.

However, PTI must remember one lesson of history. As soon as PTI will try and implement its education policy, they will have to confront our "Mullahs" and "Maulvis"; who, in the name of Islam, will oppose a "western" education system and will demand Islamic education system. This is particularly important for IK because he is (apparently) going into an alliance with JI.

One solution to this is that IK integrates education of Quranic knowledge and wisdom (not just recitation), Hadith and Islamic law in the proposed education system from school to University.

Such a system will have beneficial effects on the individuals and nation as well. It will also raise the level of SHAOOR and BASEERAT in the society. At present, even the best education systems in the world (such as Harvard and Cambridge) fail to transfer moral values to their graduates coming out of their education systems. Graduates of good Western and US system know their subjects inside out and can succeed in cut throat competition; but lack moral values and humanity. This is the reason of decline in their society.

I hope this can be passed to relevant people in PTI.

Salam.
Dil Pakistan.

Another Suggestion:

It should be compulsory for all the students of middle level to study one regional language, apart from Urdu and English... and regional language means Pakistani languages, not arabic or persian !!

there are like 10 to 12 options...

this will help in nation building...

Regional, Urdu, and English should not be an issue. In Switzerland they speak like 4different languages. This is just to say that anything can be possible.

what do you guys think about uniform education system for all? meaning no O/A levels. Any move to dismantle O/A levels without significant improvement in the Metric/FSC syllabus will be a disaster. Although the policy sounds good but the way it will be implemented is crucial. when it comes to this one policy then you cant just get away by saying that if it fails then so wat? and that at least it is a good policy! bec if it doesnt work then you are screwed big time.

Any details? Unified, how so? How long will it take? What about standards? And in particular what about teacher training

sir i am myself involved in development of such unified education system. a proper channel and individuals are to be assigned jobs to not only devise the course content but also the books and material is to be incorporated and moreover psychologists are also involved and whole examination system is to converted and i being the head of software to incorporate and interlink this system knows pretty much every thing but our system once complete shall be given free to govt to be implemented.....i am hopeful and confident.......in sha Allah in very near future you will get the good news....atleast i can do this for my country....

This is obviously a socialist view point (and to some degree the whole thread is a leftie ponzie scheme).

Bhattoo Mattoo Zulfi chor the communist did the same, and destroyed an excellent schools/college system back in the 70s.

Why are we worried about "the stuff that actually works and does provide good source of awareness"..

Let's just worry about the "stuff that doesn't work" like stone age places called mad house madrassahs. And the government funded schools that lack teachers and buildings etc.

We don't need top down socialists schemes. Thank you.

Let the government show they can run their own schools effectively.

Who knows, people will start sending their kids to government run schools then (instead of Grammar schools)

And why just shout about O/A level.

Why are we ignoring the money pit called our free medical and engineering and other colleges and universities.

Where students think it is their mai baap ki jageer to come to big name government run universities free of cost, and then join all the militant groups from both leftie commie side and the Islamist side.

Why not start charging some minimum amount for the university education and then use the saving to fund the broken government schools that are joke of primary/sec education.

To be honest, our education system is upside down.

We fund university education making it almost free (and thus create dimwit student unions) while our primary/sec education suffers.

PTI to spend Rs2.5 trillion on education sector: Imran

Chairman Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan said on Wednesday that a PTI government would declare an ‘education emergency’ in the country the moment it assumes power.

He stated this while addressing the launching ceremony of the PTI Education Policy Vision and unveiling of the six-point education emergency policy of the PTI.

He vowed to introduce uniform education system with one curricula for all and provision of education in mother tongue and Urdu language for primary levels.

He said the education budget would be increased from current 2.1 per cent to 5 per cent of the GDP over its five-year term and Rs. 2.5 trillion would be spent on education.

He also that the party would recover looted money from corrupt politicians, which would be diverted to education spending.

Imran Khan said that the PTI considered education a critical subject and a pre-requisite for improving the deteriorating plight of the country.

He said the PTI would make all-out efforts to bring madressah students into the mainstream.

Imran Khan said that English being an international language cannot be ignored, but it would be taught as a subject and not as a cultural imperialism as it triggered wide cultural and social divisions in the country.:undecided:

The PTI chairman vowed that after coming to power, all educational institutions would be de-politicised and de-centralised to the town level under which education and its management would be devolved to district and sub-district levels.

He said that in Fata and Balochistan, the educational institutions had been shut for the past ten years due to which a generation could not educate their children, which is matter of immediate attention.

not so impressive, except for the fact that atleast they have thought about it, unlike the current lot who kept 25 million children out of schools.............

PTI outlines its Rs2.5 trillion education policy
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan unveiled his party’s comprehensive policy on education on Wednesday.
The policy outlines a plan to spend Rs2.5 trillion on the education sector in Pakistan for if and when it comes into power, according to a press release from the PTI.
Khan vowed to increase the education budget from 2.1% to 5% of the GDP and pledged to spend Rs2.5 trillion on education in what he described would be an ‘education emergency’ in the country, which would be declared the moment his party assumes power.
The PTI chief also said that his government would devolve educational institutions to the town level and their management would be devolved to district and sub-district levels.
He once again reiterated his party’s long-time stance on establishing a uniform education system throughout the country.
“The rich man’s son and poor man’s son will study the same syllabus,” the PTI chief had told an annual Insaf Students Federation convention last year.

Imran Khan wants to raise the standard of education in Pakistan?

How about these points:

1) People who want to become Pakistani Politicians must have some higher education degree from a Pakistani Institution
2) Children of Politicians must be educated in a Pakistani Institution in Pakistan during term of Office
3) Urdu as a National Language must be taught, if funding comes from Federal/ Provincial/ City government
4) ALL University/ College students MUST:
a- Pursuing Medical Degree must serve in under-developed area for 6 months
b- Pursuing Teaching must serve (same as above)
c- etc to each degree obtaining
5) National University/ College Eligibility Examination
6) Teachers must have Degrees in field, any Teacher failing to teach for less than 80% attendance rate will be fired with no benefits

Feel free to add:meeting:

PTI to spend Rs2.5 trillion on education sector: Imran

Chairman Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan said on Wednesday that a PTI government would declare an ‘education emergency’ in the country the moment it assumes power.

Leader I am going to transcend support for Imran Khan and look at PTI education policy as critically as possible. If you have clout with PTI leaders please relay my concerns.

Educational emergency is a good move. We all want it. This is a bold and welcome first step.

He stated this while addressing the launching ceremony of the PTI Education Policy Vision and unveiling of the six-point education emergency policy of the PTI.

Was it a PDF or PPT presentation. Can the report be found online and is it downloadable. If so please provide a link as I would like to analyze in detail.

He vowed to introduce uniform education system with one curricula for all and provision of education in mother tongue and Urdu language for primary levels.

Now let me start with saying this is a very good initiative that may help the poor move to a better standard of education. Urdu too is being killed. I know people raised and studied in Pakistan who do not know proper urdu or fail to read or write Urdu. This is very welcome as even the book market is suffering in Pakistan because of lack of Urdu training. An urdu typist gets a very low salary. I have seen the issues in offices. Urdu has no future. Very welcome step indeed.

But providing of education in mother-tongue for primary level-thank God he said it only for primary level and even that is a little shock? I think he should leave such things to personal choice. No offence, I say this as a supporter. We can't impose things-theres already fake history, Islamiyaat and Pakistan affairs we have to deal with. I wish something had been said about that.

I really would want these concerns relayed to PTI. Please do copy my post and send it to him if you know him. I want the party to improve and not do something reckless in its first year. Do not ban private schools. Instead reform the public schools on their model. I saw similar ideas in his book a personal history. Also I have ideas on the Panchayat/Jirga system.

He said the education budget would be increased from current 2.1 per cent to 5 per cent of the GDP over its five-year term and Rs. 2.5 trillion would be spent on education.

Welcome comment and very welcome initiative. Much needed. Though I remember Yousuf Raza Gillani the corrupt promising to raise it to 8% and nothing happening just like Raja Pervez Ashraf's white lie as power minister that the energy crisis would be eliminated.

The thing is people may realize when they come to power some things are impossible. But this should happen.

He also that the party would recover looted money from corrupt politicians, which would be diverted to education spending.

This is the crux of the statement. Brilliant. 1 Billion of Zardari and 1 Billion of Nawaz. Enough to educate thousands of children for years
.
Imran Khan said that the PTI considered education a critical subject and a pre-requisite for improving the deteriorating plight of the country.

Well said.

He said the PTI would make all-out efforts to bring madressah students into the mainstream.

They should be in the mainstream but the curricula? He said nothing about the curriculum in the schools. I am imagining JI/JUI thugs in univesity now. University of Karachi people used to seeing them. @Secur might know.

There should be special schools for them that teach them moderate religion and theories of Ibn Rushd and mu'tazila thought. Also they should be taught each mans faith is his own concern.

Imran Khan said that English being an international language cannot be ignored, but it would be taught as a subject and not as a cultural imperialism as it triggered wide cultural and social divisions in the country.:undecided:

Even you are unsure about this as we can see. :azn:
I do not believe English is to blame somehow... I don't know how English can be to blame for division. I know urdu and plan to buy my driver sajji some day soon. Most english speakers know urdu too and are bilingual. I don't understand this attack on English.

The PTI chairman vowed that after coming to power, all educational institutions would be de-politicised and de-centralised to the town level under which education and its management would be devolved to district and sub-district levels.

Sounds good, though I have no experience of the civil system so I cannot say devolution to the town level is better or control by the provincial government is. But local may lead to teaching of indigenous languages. Like Hindko in Hazara division. Maybe @Safriz would be happy.

He said that in Fata and Balochistan, the educational institutions had been shut for the past ten years due to which a generation could not educate their children, which is matter of immediate attention.

I am so glad he raised this at all. No one reall cares about them and at least 500 schools have been shut in FATA and in some Shirani areas of Balochistan where there is heavy infiltration of Taliban. Also there are 3400 schools destroyed by flooding and militants in various areas of Pakhtunkhwa. No one has rebuilt them. 468 have been destroyed by militants in FATA with Bajaur making up the majority.

not so impressive, except for the fact that atleast they have thought about it, unlike the current lot who kept 25 million children out of schools.............

Good to see you are also a critic. I have always noticed this nonchalance in our PTI supporters and it is the best feature I believe in us. We do not stop thinking for ourselves, questioning party ideals and demanding better. This is what makes us fully capable of changing the political scenario, not just that but all of Pakistan.

I think Imran Khan is over-focusing on some things like universal education and taking it to the letter. Its near impossible having a universal education system for the country. For example when we say one education for all regions what about Pashto being taught in Pakhtunkhwa and Sindhi in Sindh. What about the history of Raja Dahir, Talpur kingdoms, Rajputs, Pir Roshan, Suris, Hurs being taught? This has to be covered too depending on the region. Pakhtunkhwa should know about the kalam of Rehman Baba as the Sindhis should know about the Hur movement while Balochs should know about the folk legend of Hani and Sheh Mureed.

Interesting to know what @muse and supporters like @Awesom and @AstanoshKhan think of this. This is a detailed analysis of what I think of the education policy. Manana.
