LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) candidates from Lahore returned their tickets in protest against the “unjust allotment” of tickets by the party’s central parliamentary board, Express News reported on Thursday.
The candidates who returned the tickets included PTI Lahore chapter president and head of district parliamentary board Abdul Aleem Khan and Jamshed Iqbal Cheema.
The candidates claimed that they had received tickets for themselves but most of the other party members recommended to the central parliamentary committee were ignored.
They have also announced they will not contest the elections from the PTI.
Aleem Khan had earlier recommended candidates [for national and provincial assemblies] from each constituency in Lahore.
Among them were Shoaib Siddiqui, Nazeer Chohan, Nasrullah Mughal, Mian Javed Ali, Irshad Dogar, Zulqarnain Taj, Farrukh Javed Moon, Abdul Rasheed Bhatti, Jamil Asghar Bhatti and Sardar Kamil Umer.
PTI’s central information secretary had said that most of the names recommended by the Lahore chapter were rejected because the party had decided to award tickets on merit.
Most of the candidates were in real estate business and favoured by Aleem Khan for that reason, a party leader seeking anonymity told The Express Tribune.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) central information secretary Shafqat Mehmood said on Wednesday that the party’s parliamentary board had rejected most of the candidates recommended by PTI Lahore chapter.

He said the Central Parliamentary Board (CPB) had decided to award tickets on merit. “The CPB discussed each candidate at length and those with good reputations have been granted tickets,” Mehmood said.

Abdul Aleem Khan, the PTI Lahore Chapter president, had earlier recommended three candidates [for national and provincial assemblies] from each constituency in Lahore.

Among them were Shoaib Siddiqui, Nazeer Chohan, Nasrullah Mughal, Mian Javed Ali, Irshad Dogar, Zulqarnain Taj, Farrukh Javed Moon, Abdul Rasheed Bhatti, Jamil Asghar Bhatti and Sardar Kamil Umer.

Most of the candidates were in real estate business and favoured by Aleem Khan for that reason, a party leader seeking anonymity told The Express Tribune.

He said some of the ‘favoured candidates’ from the Unity Group were accused of rigging in the party elections.

He said Imran Khan had assured the potential candidates that tickets would be awarded on merit.

“The decision to give tickets to Aleem Khan and Chaudhry Mansha Sindhu for NA-127 and NA-130 has been unpopular,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Insaf Lawyers Forum (ILF) Lahore Chapter president Fayyaz Mehar has decided to stage a province-wide protest against the party’s decision to ‘ignore’ lawyers in awarding party tickets.

Mehar claimed that the ILF office bearers had been promised party tickets by Imran Khan and other senior leaders.
He said the CPB had not granted a single ticket to ILF office bearers. He said ILF would set up a camp outside Imran Khan’s residence to protest. A press conference would be held on Thursday [today], he added.

Hooor Gaaannnnaaay Choppppo:omghaha:

so much for being the democratic party, the people Pti Lahore President nominated never got the tickets lol

PTI system might have some problems as in a country like Pakistan where merit is only a word in dictionary and is not seen in real practice.

Many like me who have seen merit in real practice here in west know that once the system of merit owrks, its ruthless and favors no one. PTI's biggest challenge is awarding the tickets as there are many mafias in Paksitan and the whole system in which PTI is striving is fundamentally against merit.

It is this system that creates the parasites like PML,PPP and MQM.

I wish PTI all the best and long live Pakistan.

Kick them out. This is pure black mail by these mafia,s. Most probably aleem khan is behind this as he not only didnt get 4 tickets but his friends were ignored too. Pure blackmail which PTI should not surrender too. This is imran khans test. Hope he passes in flying colours. Part of democracy is also not bending down to oppositions on right decisions.

This is alot like N league and PPP workers who are on polls threatening to kill themselves if the ones they are supporting dont get the ticket.I say throw them all out.

If they failed at merit then they failed at merit. No game around it my friend. However Imran khan should not back down on it. If he gives into them then he will give into them when he comes into power too. This is his real test. Can he stand up against such corrupt and powerful people and stick to his promise and do whats right?

Kaptaan himself shud resolve this ticket issue once and for all and kick these losers out from the party, there is no shortage of gud candidates.

He does not need to system is doing it...

One must praise IKs vision at this juncture.

He was amongst very few in PTI to insist on completing intr party elections before going into general elections. Now, problems like these and pressure from rogue elements inside party can be dealt with effectively using party structure without damaging the party.
