Members of the Armenian community in Argentina protested over the presence of Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdoğan at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) session for the presentation of Istanbul as candidate to host the 2020 Summer Olympic Games.

Demonstrators gathered outside the meeting venue in Buenos Aires Sept. 7, holding banners that read 'No to Istanbul 2020.'

The group also held the pictures of the slain Turkish journalist of Armenian origins Hrant Dink. The renowned chief editor of Agos, was shot in front of his office in Istanbul on Jan. 19, 2007.

Earlier in the day, another group of Argentines organized a protest demanding the thorough investigation into the death of four Gezi protesters and a security officer killed during the police crackdown on nation-wide protests between May and July.

The IOC will elect the winning city from candidates Istanbul, Madrid, and Tokyo on Sept. 7 afternoon at a session in the Argentine capital.

AMERICAS - Armenian community members in Argentina protest against Istanbul 2020 bid

I posted this in Europe's section, because it is mainly about Armenia and Turkey...

They lost anyway. Unfortunately though, Istanbul is a nice city to visit for the olympics. Unlike Tokyo, which is on the other side of the world.

They came out for nothing, haha

There is also radiation there. One of the "against" arguments they used for Istanbul is conflict in Syria, by then, 2020, it will be over. Apperantly they just looking for excuses not to give it to the Turks.

Really? that's ridiculous... though claims of radiation in Tokyo are not much better tbh.

Tel Aviv should bid for the Olympics. Given whats going on the Middle East, its probably the safest choice.

Istanbul has a huge city transportation and traffic problem..I saw Turkey Olympic Committee`s solution for that and its unrealistic...Until we find a solution for that, Olympics is just a dream for Istanbul...Being bridge between West and East is a good argument but not enough to be honest

If it wasn't for the Syrian conflict and all the madness going in the region, Turkey deserved it.

Turkey lost it because of the liberal gezi park protesters

They fuxed this up for Turkey

Gezi Park Protestors emerged because of Erdogan's authoritarian way of ruling. Cause and Effect. So we can say Erdogan is the one who fvcked upped, in your point of view.
