Those emotional investments did not came from nothing. Whether the dog is equal or less intelligent than the pig or cow is not the sole reason for why we have greater emotional investments in the dog more than we do in the cow or pig. Other reasons are...???

in your earlier post you emphasized on functional relationship, their versatility and the fact that they work hard for us. I said thats not primarily why we are appalled when people eat dog, the primary reason is, they are our pets, we got 'emotional' bond with pets.. we dont have any functional relation with cats (do they catch mouse anymore?) but we like them, a lot. Why we like them need not be due to xyz property only.

Your list is a completely made up comparison by keeping dogs on one side and pigs/cows and other side and finding out whats special about dogs. Thats how dogs are different from other animals, not necessarily why we like them.
