'Projection of 17pc coastal inundation not factual'

Yeah nothing to see here at all:

Tell this no name in OP to make an actual press conference so we can see if the world gives a damn about the BBS/BAL denial+fake attitude.
So, you are here to prove that all those millions of acres of new land that arose from the BoB will evaporate in a day? Note one point. India/Nepal are sending us 2.4 billion ton of silt every year. So, do your own math and see how many sq. km. of land this silt can form when the banking height is, say, 8.5 meter (6 m under sea surface + 2.5 m above). It is the nature that India cannot play against us.

You obviously have no idea about the soil mechanics of silt islands for habitation and farming. Good luck getting people to migrate to newly formed islands in the delta while heritage coastal soil gets inundated.

Anyways you are free to ignore the globally professionally and scientifically recognised effects of climate change. I believe international science journals way more than any BeeDee BAL/BBS appointed record player.

A few online BeeDees ignoring such while their countrymen suffer in the millions over the coming years matters nothing to the fact that BD long term is a lost cause and a humanity failure in more ways than one. Your effective population density is going to go through the roof with whatever the 10%, 20%, 30% net liveable land loss is...and you are all already complaining about the capacity gridlock in BD holding back X,Y and Z industry...so grab the popcorn.

Not to mention your basic civil engineering sucks big time

Some points to note here-
1.This article was published with upcoming Paris climate agreement in head.Vast majority of these type of article with a lot of 'haunting' images usually come up just before or during a major climate conference. So you can tell these reports as agenda driven.

2.This article or any others on this matter states clearly, 20 million people are 'at risk' of becoming climate refugee,no one is claiming it will 'definitely' happen. So it means there are some mitigation measures which can be taken,It may come in various forms, like carbon emission reduction, helping poorer affected countries to become climate resilient, forming a global climate fund to built necessary infrastructure etc.

3.These 'haunting' pictures are related to river bank erosion or seasonal monsoon flood and resulting hardship of extreme poor people. This things are happening in this region for thousands of years.Even if any cameraman could go back 1000 years, they still would have found same images. So these images doesn't prove exclusively the climate change phenomenon. Some of them climate refugee 'yes' there were always climate refugee in Bangladesh for the reason of flood, river erosion, cyclone etc. Some move to cities to do other menial jobs and other get rehabilitated in other newly formed land formed by river sleet sedimentation. All these type of article confuse together river bank erosion, seasonal flooding, cyclone and global warming/sea level rise to present their article in case of BD.

4.This professor himself is an global warming, anthropogenic climate change proponent. He doesn't deny coastal areas can get inundated due to sea level rise. What he says is about, mitigation measures for such eventuality. His seminar in Dhaka, titled 'Protection of Bangladesh coast from adverse effect of climate change: Things to do to save from tidal flow in monsoon'. So obviously he will talk about what Bangladesh can do in such circumstances,he is not a climate change denier or have any tie with BBS.Actually Bangladesh promote itself in international forum as a victim of climate change and BBS have no agenda to go its opposite direction.

'Projection of 17pc coastal inundation not factual'
Staff Correspondent | Update: 23:11, Feb 19, 2017

Environmentalist Ainun Nishat at a seminar said projection about inundation of large part of Bangladesh due to sea level rise is not factual.

When the sea will rise up to that level, Bangladesh could adjust techniques to fight back the catastrophe, he said at the seminar in Dhaka, titled 'Protection of Bangladesh coast from adverse effect of climate change: Things to do to save from tidal flow in monsoon'

Professor Ainun Nishat said other nations in the world want to learn from Bangladesh about how to protect coast.

"Many people say 17 per cent of Bangladesh coastal area will be submerged. It's not a fact," he added.

If there was no embankment, it could happen. But there is a 12-15 feet embankment in the coastal area.

With the detrerioration of climate situation, Bangladesh would build stronger embankments to prevent rising water level, he hoped.

"If sea level rises by 1 meter, it may inundate 17 per cent coastal area. But it will take 100 more years to happen," said Hasan Mahmud, president of parliamentary committee on environment and forestry ministry. Preventive measures are possible against this potential threat, he added.

According to an essay presented at the seminar, as much as 15 cyclones hit the Bangladesh coastal area in past few years, leaving scores of people dead and about 5 million people homeless.

Coast Trust executive director Rezaul Karim moderated the seminar.
That's untrue. Simply because of geology.

He is welcome to present his facts to the world science community rather than give a govt (which consistently ranks as one of the worlds most corrupt and least institution confidence) made conference.

But of course such will not happen. Anyway, it is something best left to observe as to who is right and wrong given the nature of the well BD elite seems to enjoy being immersed in.

Simply take out a topographic map and look at the ASL data for BD...it tells you all one would need to know about a real impending problem if sea levels rise even conservatively (exacerbated by weather changes).

Sure BD is not totally doomed and there are things that can be done to mitigate the challenges. However it is not going to be easy at all and remains to be seen how successful it will all be. This concerns many coastal areas of India and the world too....but few countries are made up solely of flat barely above sea level land like BD with the level of population (and lack of resources per capita) too.

No, he is not. We need all the climate change funds we can get. What happens will be seen and hopefully dealt accordingly.

How much does BD get on average per year for climate change reasons and are there any projections for this (along with what the sources are)?

Why he would have to present his facts to any body?He is not trying to prove anything against anyone..He is not denying climate change. He is giving his opinion regarding mitigation plan. Those are the facts are well known to everybody. There may be dispute about best possible work plan or who will pay for it.These things are discussed regularly among the parties involved. He doesn't have to challenge anyone for anything. He already said coastal inundation may happen if nothing is done. What's there to dispute about it from a perspective of a climate change proponent? You can dispute with him from a climate change opponent view point like whether those prediction itself is due to happen.

Fair enough. Lets hope for the best.

I don't know. Will google later and see if I can find anything. However afaik, BD has been trying to get funds to battle climate change in various climate change related summits. And arguments like "we are getting drowned due to sea level rise" are quite effective there.

Climate change I believe is real. But how much BD(or any country for that matter) are affected is something no one can say for sure. And there is also a lot of world wide propaganda going on this matter. It's hard to form an opinion about it.

The results of climate change are something I feel has too much data out there to contradict.

Where my specific issue lies with pointing the cause as 100% solely human factors (as opposed to a combination with a myriad of natural and even astrophysical factors). The sensitivity studies and weather modelling leave much to be desired, and they keep being revised as a result. Only recently there was also the admitting by one scientist that parts of NOAA fudged some data to push for a more higher impulse (to show greater correlation with human activity). When you combine this with the pro-govt agenda being pushed at an alarming rate, it has all the recipes of a massive global govt scam taking shape (with a very scary feedback loop into research funding). Anyway thats another topic.

It is very clear to me, whatever the causes of it are, every country must take steps now to plan for coastal area inundation and more extreme weather patterns. For BD the whole country will definitely be affected more severely than most. It remains to be seen how much hydraulic + hydrologic engineering can mitigate it....because using loans to finance massive civil engineering on the scale of the Netherlands is not that easy for the scale required in BD. Is there even any time plan set by BD for this?. It needs very dedicated outlays, given the Dutch did theirs over hundred of years financed by their trade banks....and BD has much less time and not the same of wealth per capita....though BD has plenty of labour at hand so that is a positive thing.

. .
I can understand your mind here. You were repeated tagged and retagged here as an 'opponent'. But I know from my previous experience ,you have sufficient knowledge about this topic from different angles of debate.:D

I take some harsh positions to try get the best answers to underlying questions :P.

Well, if things are that bad then we'll have to spend more on hydraulic engineering. But the doomsday outcomes are something I find hard to believe. When I was a kid(in around 2002-3) there were news that 30-40% of BD will be underwater by 2015. I remember my mother panicked and asked my father what to do if that was the case.

YOu should rest assured BD will be underwater in your lifetime and bengalis will sail to Chennai to kick out Tamils to Ravan in Lanka.
