The concept of a "Chinese Union" consisting of China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, North Korea, South Korea, Vietnam, Singapore and Mongolia has suggested by professor Ju Jiandong, director of the Center for Economic Research at Tsinghua University in Beijing, reports Hong Kong's Phoenix Television.

Ju said at a seminar that there have been three phases of China's economic transformation after it joined the World Trade Organization in 2001. The first phase took place between 2001 and 2005 when China became a country fully adapted to a free market environment. Between 2006 and 2008, the second phase was completed when China became a major importer of consumer goods as well as an exporter. For the last phase from 2008, China is trying to adjust its balance of trade with foreign nations, Ju said.

Even though more American goods are being imported into China than ever before, the reliance on US products in China has decreased recently according to Ju. In 1989, US products introduced into the Chinese market made up about 9.7% of the overall imported goods, and this number stood at 7.2% nine years later. With more challenges and obstacles facing international trade, Ju said that regional trade will be more active in the future. Because of this, he suggested the creation of a "Chinese Union" as a new and strong competitor to the European Union and North America — what Ju called a new era of Three Kingdoms, a reference to a period in classical Chinese history.

Ju suggested that the economic development of Far East nations is totally different from the experience of Europe and America. While the culture of the west emphasizes individualism, eastern cultures embrace a collective model. Because of this, Ju believes the nine aforementioned Asian countries and regions which share cultural similarities should work together for their mutual benefit.

Na they will not Attempt That . It will be foolish to Do so and Draw the Ire of International Community .

China can and china should , little emporers have to grow up and show some balls..

The essential distinction between humiliation and shame would be in this Union, if it ever to be considered. In reality who the hell wants to be under a communist welding baton. While they are already free nations except the cummies.

Only country i would assume to in love of this idea are pakistan and bangladesh. Sri Lankans are smarter than to try such an idea specially given there position in Indian Ocean.

" Macau, Taiwan, North Korea, South Korea, Vietnam, Singapore and Mongolia"......
so the locusts can jump freely???
I dont think the above mentioned countries will buy into it for atleast another few years to come...
May be these countries will form a new country named "Anti China"...................Only logical merge of these countries :D

It doesnt say anything about annexing. All it says is that it should form a union on the lines of the European Union - Plus this is the opinion of one professor not the country. Try not to sensationalize small news items.
Also from the way the European union turned out I'd say its a pretty stupid move.

Why call it 'Chinese Union'? Why not East Asian Union? Why has the word 'China' always have to figure where the Chinese are concerned? Or does China want to merge all these countries into a 'Greater China'? :cheesy:

That is simply a joke. If there is any economic alliance, it is fine. Territory-wise??? Are you on drugs???

He just meant to form a tightly knitted free trade zone with the said countries to balance the NAFTA of the US, Canada, Mexico and the Euro zone. This particular balance would be similar the the historical Three Kingdom where no one will have an advantage than the other.

In reality China already has FTA with ASEAN so the union of that particular side is pretty much set, albeit further unity are called for. China is also talking FTA with South Korea and Mongolia and working on zero tariff details. Taiwan definitely is game.

So if one discount the OP's title, this economic union is almost there.

First Soviet Union then European Union...we all know what had happened with these Unions and here comes Chineese Union i am sure after Chineese Union world will feel that the word Union is a JINX
