Army chief says the troopers will help Saudi military in demining two regions

The process of deploying 1,700 Bangladeshi military personnel in two regions of Saudi Arabia has been set in motion, says the chief of staff of Bangladesh Army.

Bangladeshi troopers will assist the Saudi military in removing land mines in those two regions, following their deployment in line with an agreement signed recently between the countries, General Aziz Ahmed said at an event at the Qadirabad Cantonment in Natore on Tuesday.

He was the chief guest at the ceremony held to present regimental colours to four engineering battalion.

Gen Aziz also said that there was possibility that two demining battalions consisting of 1,700 military personnel and 18 additional personnel for the Bangladesh Military Contingent Command Headquarter will be deployed to Saudi Arabia’s Jazan and Najran regions.

Bangladesh has already sent a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard to the Saudi authorities concerned, he said, adding that the deployment process will officially begin once the MoU was approved.

. . . .
Saudis can be hard task masters.

When Saudis hire Americans you would not say the same.

and sold to the highest bidder!
It's a win win situation for both Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia.
no one work for free, not even in their own countries.

However, i see it as a lost opportunity for Pakistan.

. .
We have loads of troops there. Why should we send 1300 more?
Let Bengalis do it. We need our troops more than them.

We have loads of troops... this is news. Since when? How many!
We have lot of unemployment in Pakistan, why not allow retired soldiers to work in ME!

Imagine having a 68 billion dollar military budget, but being too incompetent to remove mines or pacify poorly armed rebels.

Let us think in another pov...Gulf people are rich. They value the life of their citizen more than the other people...So they can afford to avoid taking any risk to their life by outsourcing their security to other countries

Wrong! Big militaries are a no no for relatively new monarchies. Best of luck bd

you are wrong mines removing is risky job . they want BD guys to die not saudis .they need cheap labor to die and clean their country .

78 countries are contaminated with land mines and 15,000–20,000 people are killed every year

Well if the job is risky , then I believe that experience of our personnel will be improved and it will help us in future . I want Bangladesh to be prepared for the worst condition !

No man.

The reality is Bangladeshi lives are cheaper than Saudi ones.

We need to get on this racket. This 'providing security' to the GCC business. Bangladeshis/Pakistanis shouldn't have all the fun. We need to have our cut.

No more pussyfooting around UN 'peacekeeping' in some African hellhole. It's time to put the useless Indian army to some actual work.
