very clever... in jail they will civilize the un-civilized criminals and win their hearts as well.

There is a Saudi social programme called khawatir خواطر which is aired on MBC every year during Ramadan, it's presenter Ahmed Al Shuqairi (a Saudi) talks about a different social issue in each episode.

Last ramadan one of episode was about prisons and he compared the prisons of islamic countries in general and Arab countries in particular with the prison in norway. I leave you with the video of the episode. Even though it is in Arabic but I am sure you all will enjoy it. Do you know that if a person is in prison and he has a family in norway, they (the family) is supported financially and morally as the head of the family is seving a sentence.

In the prison which is a complete island. the police men and prisonners work together doing jobs specified for each prisoner in the prison, like blacksmith, wood cutter, carpenter, painter etc. and the prisonner cutting the trees is standing with an axe and having a chat with a police man, imagine this scene in Pakistan and the police man would be surely killed.

The police officials while on duty have their meals prepared by guess who? the prisonners themelves. When Ahmed Al Shuqairi asks a police officer are you not afraid that they might add some poison or something, he replies no, we have to trust them (the prisoners).

what if India and pak start providing such prisons..surely the crime rate will increase.

But for that you have to first improve the social level of the ordinary citizen.

Keep in mind that the conditions of prisoners is always lower than the social level of the citiziens or residents of that country. Now keeping this in mind and after seeing the conditions of the prison above just imagine the social level of the common citizen and resident in Norway.

Yes, the Scandinavian prison system is headed in the right direction, because they listen to the criminologists who know what they're talking about. Rather than simply devising cruelties for those who get caught. I've discussed it here on the forum before, but many believe that treating prisoners properly just lead to more crime, even though all statistics show the opposite. And remember even if you sit in a golden cage is still a cage.

The video i posted above has some statistics comparing the prison inmates of Arab countries with that of Norway (or I think of Scandinavian countries in general, I am not sure).

The prisons in Pakistan are more far more worse than those in Arab countries (in general) if not the same.
