It seems in Kabul the more things change the more they stay the same.
As I pointed out in light of the lighter American involvement, the only hope Ghani (not Ahmadzai) had of defending Kabul was by paying Dostum up and letting him rap and pillage as he pleased. Lo and behold he has been declared Marshall of ANA.
Also drafted in is Dr Abdullah to control half the cabinet and the peace process.
And finally Ghani keeps his post as the gloried mayor.

Dostum is a crazy warlord responsible for several mass murders. Taliban will deal with that fool in due time. The time of Northern Alliance influence in Kabul is over. The Pashtun politicians in Kabul need to strike a deal with the Taliban, constrain the influence of NA and reposition Afghanistan foreign policy.
That crazy warlord has just been declared a Marshall. I guess congratulations are in order.

There are no Pashtun politicians in Kabul at the moment. The pretend ones have already made their peace with the NA warlords though.

Terrible situation. The politics in Kabul is a mess and doomed to fail.

Indeed it is mess. But it is also what the US dictated to Ghani. As can be gathered from the below excerpt from an opinion piece by Brookings.

"All that said, there may be one idea worth considering. Ghani and Abdullah could agree that the peace process with the Taliban, already postponed for two weeks due to a dispute between Ghani and the Taliban over prisoner release, could be led on the government side by Abdullah. He would not be Ghani’s delegate so much as the representative of what Afghan patriot and media leader Saad Mohseni calls “the republican side” of the country”

Ghani did his usual drama of not bowing to the US dictate but at the end he had to do as he was ordered.
