Possible Theft?

So this just happened:

I was out around midnight with my wife getting tea, after ordering and while waiting for our tea, I notice someone park their car horizontally across parking spaces very close to my passanger side door (This irks me quite a bit). About a couple of moments later, my wife gets approached by a man demanding to lower the window, I point at him to come to my side and he misunderstands and thinks I'm shooing him off, I wave at him again and he finally understands.

Upon lowering my window, He starts explaining that he was robbed and wants to use my phone to make a call, my wife is scared and immediately tugs me to just roll the windows up, also he ignores my request to move his head further away as he is not wearing a mask and he is close to sticking his head in my car. Anyways during his explanations I notice that he is looking less at me and more at my wife, this continues and I get pissed off.

I get out of the car and tell him to go use the restaurants phone, he says they wont let him, I asked him to do it anyway and that they will let him use it.

Anyways he goes there and asks to use the phone while also explaining to them what a dick head I am for not helping him, also turning around and saying expletives to me. (Infuriating to me since he is using their phone, my wife grabs my arm and begs me to not go out, to immediately leave, we do so).

Thoughts?
P.s.
1. He has a car, why is he bothering people to use the phone? Go home.

2. There are a ton of people around, why is he persistant with me?

3. Whats with oogling my wife?

4. Was he going to run off with my phone?

Certainly his car parked like that is suspicious.

1) Never ever hand your phone to somebody. You don't let strangers drive your car so why let them drive your phone.

2) Next time if you feel the need to be a Good Samaritan (in a less suspicious scenario) tell him you'll dial the number and relay the message. BTW backup first before dialing so they don't quickly clobber you with a sucker punch if they see an expensive phone.

3) My guess is the goal was to sock you in the face as hard as they can the second your right hand went down in your pocket for the phone and then steal your keys/phone/wallet and drive off with your wife who can't open the door.

As a New Yorker, to me you sound like a puss cake and also very naive. Thank your lucky stars you didn’t get snuck.

Aren't you judgemental, how about you ask why I wasn't snuck if I was very naive.

Pusscake? Very naive? You wanted me to kick his *** while driving (running) away at the same time? Explain.

1. I sensed something was off, he never even saw my phone as I had doubts about his genuinity.

2. I thought about that, but again I was suspicious. Hence why I got out of the car and told him to use the phone at the restaurant. When he would still persist, I became louder and angrier, thats when he started moving.

3. He could try, But I'm guessing me being significantly larger than him when I got out made him reevaluate.

I was parked. :disagree:

Instead of being negative let me give you some advice.

Your initial gut feeling or primeval instincts about someone are usually the correct ones.

Once you felt something off about this guy you had two choices. Fight or flight. Your wife had a good response. She said let’s get out of here.

You on the other hand remained indecisive and just kind of froze. Neither fight nor flight. That’s why I was being harsh on you.

If you didn’t feel like this guy was a threat, you should have hopped out the car and snapped his photo and his plate tag without saying a word. He would have shit his pants and left.

Listen I hear you, But I never was indecisive, between my wife telling me to leave and the guy being persistant, I got out of the car to confront, and then he did run off to the restaurant while apologizing, but started bad mouthing me from afar, I was provoked, yes, but this time I listened to her and we left. He wasn't worth it.
