HYDERABAD, Aug 2: Responding to an intelligence report that a jailbreak attempt could be made at the Hyderabad Central Prison on the pattern of D.I. Khan`s, the whole police force of the district was deployed at the prison here on Friday night.
Talking to Dawn, Hyderabad`s SSP Saqib Memon confirmed that police had received intelligence report that the prison would be attacked on the pattern of Bannu and D.I. Khan attacks.
The SSP, however, said the report had not specified which organisation or group could be involved in the attack.
He said the area had been cordoned off and the whole police force of the district had been mobilised. A demand for reinforcements was being put to the higher authorities.
Sources said security forces had set up firing posts at various points within the prison.
According to the sources, a large number of inmates belonging to prescribed militant organisations are in the Hyderabad prison.
One of the high-profile prisoners is Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh who has been awarded death sentence in the Daniel Pearl murder case.
The co-accused in the case Salman Saqib and Sheikh Adil are in the Karachi jail.-Staff Correspondent
