Police charge Mumtaz Qadri with Taseer’s murder

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani police on Wednesday charged a security guard with murder and terrorism over the killing of Punjab provincial governor Salman Taseer, lawyers said.

Mumtaz Hussain Qadri, who was part of Taseer’s security detail, was presented before a magistrate in Islamabad and will appear in an anti-terrorism court on Thursday, lawyer Mohammad Ashraf Gujjar told AFP.

“Police have charged Qadri with murder, terrorism and violence,” another lawyer, Farooq Sulehria said.
