ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) on Tuesday refused to become part of a PPP led government in Punjab and demanded the lifting of governor rule immediately and giving the opportunity to PML (N) to use its democratic right as the single largest party to form its government.
Welcoming the political patch up on restoration of deposed judges, the party however condemned what it termed as foreign interference in the internal affairs of the country and asked the politicians to use their acumen to resolve their internal feuds instead of inviting foreign interference.
The league leadership appreciated what was termed as a positive role that was played by the army chief who instead of putting pressure on political leadership, offered his advice to resolve the political issues at their own.
Speaking at a joint news conference at the PML house here, party secretary general Mushahid Hussain Sayed, secretary Information Senator Tariq Azeem and senior vice president Nilofar Bakhtiar said the partys reunification process under aegis of veteran journalist Majeed Nizami was in an advance stage and that hopefully it would be accomplished in the near future.
They said A wrong perception was created about PML(Q) having reached an understanding with PPP on the formation of government in Punjab, adding that the party was in contact with all political forces but it had never decided to side with any party as yet.
Mushahid said It was a historic occasion when the entire nation was celebrating the restoration of Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and other deposed judges who would make the judiciary independent.
This he said has brought about a paradigm shift in the power structure of the country which had transformed into judiciary, media and civil society.
It was high time, he said that every political party respected mandate of other parties and that instead of clamping of governors rule the majority party should have been asked to bring in its new leader of the house.
Tariq Azeem Khan said, We condemn foreign interference in the internal political issue, Referring to US General Michael Mullens statement with regard to the political disturbances in Pakistan.
He said there was a need to resolve the Punjab issue without delay after the restoration of deposed judges, to end the confrontation.
Mushahid said we have condemned the February 25 action in Punjab as we believe political instability in the largest province can generate country-wide instability.
