Mexico City : Mexico supports India's membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) "positively and constructively", President Enrique Peña Nieto said after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi today.

Thanking Mexico for supporting India's bid to enter NSG, PM Modi said Mexico is an "important partner for India's energy security" and added "We are looking to move beyond buyer-seller relationship and into a long-term partnership."

The two leaders issued a joint statement after holding bilateral talks. PM Modi arrived here from the US on the fifth and final leg of his five-nation tour.

On June 6, Switzerland, an important member of the NSG, extended support to India's membership in the group during PM Modi's stopover in Geneva en route to the US from Qatar.

Bilateral investments were expected to be a major focus during the talks in Mexico. Two-way trade between India and Mexico stands at around $6 billion.
Within Asia, India is the largest importer of crude oil from Mexico. India's major exports to Mexico include pharmaceutical products and automobile parts.
