PM wants projection of country’s ‘true image’

ISLAMABAD: The information ministry has a key role in perception management and projecting the country’s true image, Prime Minister Imran Khan said during a briefing at the PM Office on Wednesday.

“Keeping up with the pace of a highly sophisticated world of information today, we must safeguard our society from a cultural onslaught that endangers our cultural values, norms and the social fabric,” observed the prime minister.

Information Secretary Sardar Ahmed Nawaz Sukhera gave a presentation regarding the functions of the ministry and its attached departments. The briefing dwelt at length on the affairs of state media broadcasters, including the Pakistan Television Corporation and the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation.

Prime Minister Imran Khan stressed the need for maintaining impartiality and ordered constitution of a board of directors comprising eminent, honest professionals to oversee administrative and financial affairs of these organisations.

The prime minister called for preparation of a plan for restructuring of PTV in order to transform the organisation from a loss-making entity to a viable body.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Electronic Regulatory Authority issued instructions to all satellite TV channels on Wednesday to review their entertainment and news content in accordance with the Electronic Media Code of Conduct 2015.

The authority asked television channels not to dramatise news items based on crime, sexual abuse and accidents. Entertainment channels have been advised to uphold social, Islamic and ethical values of Pakistani society in their programmes.

A channel along the lines of TRT and PressTV would do wonders for the image of Pakistan both at home and abroad. Simultaneously the channel should be put to air through Youtube/FB for maximum online viewership.
I would prefer TRT model than the Press TV, the latter is nothing but the mouthpiece of the govt and people shrug it off ...however TRT has a pretty independent policy.

even if independent trt has govt influence which too will be needed, as it should try to spread the countries interest and counter propaganda

Should be similar to TRT or the BBC.
BBC is bad now

Every news channel spread their national agenda to a certain extent.

I agree with you that the BBC is biased in some of its stuff. But it does have some good articles in them occasionally.

Even though it would have to project the state of Pakistan's view but it should appear as much international as it can be and I don't mind even if we hire some native English speaking hosts, news castors and anchor person...something like Aljazeera.
Their studios should look like BBC and CNNs and the production quality should be like the aforementioned but they have our policy.

bbc and cnn arent that good anymore

PTV should change the ugly logo they been using since 2016

PTV should also have local newscasts like here in the USA where the affiliates of CBS,ABC,FOX produce at certain time slots, I heard back in the day local programs were big on PTV Lahore and Karachi. As for international broadcasting there is PTV World which is a piss poor attempt and needs to be relaunched with a mix of international presenters and hiring producers from big international networks that's how Al Jazeera became a very successful channel
