ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan will perform the ground-breaking of Mohmand Dam on May 2, Senator Faisal Javed said on Tuesday.

Javed took to Twitter to make the announcement. “Prime Minister Imran Khan to perform the ground-breaking of Mohmand Dam on 2nd May 2019. Special thanks to all the donors who are contributing for this great cause,” he tweeted.

The groundbreaking of the project was initially scheduled for January but was postponed owing to pressing engagements of the prime minister.

Mohmand Dam is the flood control dam and after its construction, it will be able to store 300,000 cusecs of water.

The dam has gross capacity of 1.9 million acre feet (MAF), live capacity 0.67 MAF with power generation potential of 800 megawatts (MW) and annual energy production of 2862 GWh.

The cost of the said project in 2003 stood at $1 billion which has now swelled to $3 billion because of the inordinate delays ......

both dasu and munda dam has fundings offers that are delayed due to slow land procurement..govt is sitting on its ***..inculidng this govt

real challenging ones are bhasha, dasu which dont have funding offer

than we have to expedite pathan and thakot dams too

Can you do a short summary of how much water & electricity would each dam produce, and what would its costs be?

Thanks!

If I maybe so bold to ask; how much did you contribute towards Mohmand Dam (other than criticism)?
Isn't ptm going to stop the construction of this dam?
PTM people have other things to worry about at the present time such as face prosecutions for anti-state activities on behalf of enemy countries

I don't know about all but The Mohmand Dam has gross capacity of 1.9 million acre feet (MAF), live capacity 0.67 MAF with power generation potential of 800 megawatts (MW) and annual energy production of 2862 GWh (whatever this means).

nothing

MW is meaning less its GWH production that is important
basically its going to produce 2.8 billion units which is 3% of pakistan annual demand vs dasu & bhasha dam which will EACH produce 22 billion units which is 20% of pakistan annual production(110billion units)

in otherwords had govt built in last 10 years dasu, bhasha, munda(apart from bhasha all had 100% funding available) along with tarbela IV/V today these would be producing (22+22+25+3) 70 billion units or 70% of pakistan current demand

a 2000 mw thermal plant when running at high capacity usually produces 9-10billion units

PS:
funding has never been an issue for dasu(now 100% funded) and munda(AIIB wants to fund it) ..its been lack of will from the govt

dasu was delayed because of poltical tussel with PTI while munda was delayed because federal govt backed off grantee to WAPDA and ultimately EU who was funding the project backed off

bhasha was delayed because Govt refused to release 200b rupees from PSDP out of 485b cost (cost of islamabd rawalpindi and multan metro)

pakistan has enough capacity to produce three times of power of its current demand only via hydal which will cost not more than 6 units.

had govt decoded not to build peshawar lahore motor way in 1990s(cost 2 billion$) and instead build two hydro dams at same cost(bhasha dam cost was 4b $ in 1990s) pakistan would have never had the power crisis which has 1400 billion rupees debt crunch now

for any major project WAPDA has asked the govt to only provide 25% equity, as its confident it can arrange the rest from commercial lending(like all the other private investments usually do) but govt always drag feets as dams cant be completed in 5 years

an interesting example is dasu..current project cost is 4b out of which the govt share is ZERO(WB, commercial loans) while tarbela IV govt share was ZERO too(100% by WB infact 200M dollars were saved and rolled over to tarbela V)

there is no commission in dam's or opportunity of corruption, nor can you get votes from the jahil stock of society who will never use motorway either!

I remember in 1990s the motoways were pitch black infact people use to be afraid to travel on it at night!

Imagine we built bhahsha dam in 1990s with that motorway money
Talk about 22billion units of cheap power ..in early 2000s this along with tarbela would have covered almost 80% of our demand fueling a high growth tempo in late 2000s that never happened due to expensive power

Infact all roads were a death trap, before the motorway my dad made a trip to Jhelum from Lahore on the GT road and he struck a stray dog which completely destroyed the front of the car. at least now it's much better.

I think Zia should have built the dam's and he could have gotten the western partial allies to build them as well. But all that time was wasted.
