PM Imran reviews progress on establishment of university at PM House

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired a meeting on Saturday to review the progress on the establishment of a state-of-the-art University of Engineering and Emerging Technologies here at the Prime Minister’s House, ARY News reported.

The meeting discussed the matters regarding the establishment of national centres of research, innovation and entrepreneurship in artificial intelligence and allied technologies, and major national human resources development programme.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Science and Technology Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, Chairman Task Force on Science and Technology Professor Dr Atta-ur-Rehman, secretary science and technology, and senior officials, a PM Office statement said.


The minister for science and technology briefed the prime minister about various initiatives being taken by his ministry to promote scientific and technical education, besides encouraging research and development activities.

Prof Dr Atta-ur-Rehman, while briefing the prime minister about the progress made by the Task Force on Science and Technology, said they had prepared a comprehensive Knowledge-Economy Policy document.

The prime minister appreciated the efforts being made by the Ministry of Science and Technology in promoting scientific and technical education, and research.

After coming into power, Prime Minister Imran Khan vowed to modify the Prime Minister House into a state-of-the-art educational institute.

Prof Dr Atta-ur-Rehman in charge of something, means we are going to do really well. I mean really really well.

Thank you Allah literally. Its because of this one man, we are today poised to become something in science and technology. Now he is back, and for 5 bloody years, well we will be truly rising power as far as science and technology is concerned.

Today iranian say we have brains. Well we only stared in 2002 when HEC was formed and in a true sense in 2007. SO it has been only 11 years and yet we come a long way. we must have got a lot of brains to too start performing so superbly in such a short amount of time.

Iranian started more than 50 years ago for God sake. Once again we started only 11 years ago in true sense of the way. Yet what they can do, we can match already in whatever research program we undertake.

Before 2002, within Pakistan, we produced only 300 PhDs in engineering nearly 60 years of our history, less then Sahara African countries I believe. Please read that line again. We were doing that bad.

Now we produce thousands in Pakistan. Plus each Pakistani PhD is high quality PhD since it must be approved by two overseas supervisors in Europe, japan, US or china.

number of students in overseas research program thanks to his started scholarship program is really massive now.

Even though most overseas PhDs are funded by host countries, this trend was started by HEC under the leadership of Dr Atta-ur-Rehman.

Now even in china alone 27,000 (that's thousands) are completing their studies most masters or PhDs and most in science or engineering. In western Europe 50,000 several years ago, I don't know how many now. Eastern Europe, US, Korea, Russia etc, many many more.

Plus we now teach the same syllabus which is taught overseas.

All this started due to this man.

Even though he was born in India but he is an ethnic punjabi-pashtun mix from Pakistani side of the Punjab (actually afghan pashtun and punjabi mix if we go back to his family history with lot of arab ancestry as well).

All india had to do was to stop him coming back home, to Pakistan, if they knew he will transform his home country Pakistan in a true sense of the way. without him back home in Pakistan, india would have won already. Now india will bleed.

He asks right questions such as why are we not having world class artificial intelligence/machine learning and robotics research programs as diverse and as high level as we should. Then he orders planning 5 dedicated research centers for them and so on and on.

Well Dr Atta is back, so our rise to supremacy in so many scientific and technology areas is inevitable.
