Pakistani poor are even worse than the other Pakistanis when it comes to cleanliness. So I fear these vertical housing schemes by Imran Khan will become nothing but a vertical tower of garbage and cesspool. Without education and care for your environment.. Pakistanis will destroy any space.

You know this could be along with education the signature projects of PM IK. They will be measure of success of this government. No city in Pakistan should have slums. In fact that is what makes Pakistan take the look of a underdeveloped country. In Europe all those who would in the past be living in slums now live in flats or housing in council estates. This seems to be inspired by the post world war projects in Europe. And before anybody complains this is infintely better then a slum with no sanitation, gas or electrcity etc.

Pakistan need Barcelona style housing scheme with lots of public parks and trees.

That is exactly what I was referring. Building the massive housing infrastructure is only half the work. Maintaining it afterwards is the real work. You need cleaners and an army of them. What you need to avoid is these tall buildings becoming neglected wastelands.

Half our faith is based on cleanliness. At least that is what Islam is all about. Unfortunately our people haven’t learnt a thing about keeping your surrounding clean. It all starts from the people themselves. We should take responsibility for our actions. The state should apply sanctions against anyone polluting public space.

There's some truth to your statements but that's not the full story.

Like every other government institution, the sanitation department also doesn't do its job properly.

Every Eid, the slaughtered animal innards are found all over the city and the people responsible for disposing of that can't be found for days until it stinks and many complaints later, they clean it up.

Citizens can't clean the dirt of the whole street or area, or city neither is this their job.

This is a daily occurrence. We have to be prepared for the one time in a day the garbage disposal people come to give them our garbage. They only knock the door once. If you keep the garbage outside your door, they don't even bother picking it up. You have to hand them over after they come.

Like every damn thing in this country, if it has the government word attached to it, it will be harami and corrupt. The public are the victims, they're not the ones responsible.

Major urban areas are not representative of the general middle class or upper middle class of North America. Those zones are flooded by poorer people's, gangs, and 3rd world immigrants.

The major differance I have observed between Islamabad-Rawalpindi and the city I live in UK is not that the former has no posh areas. No, both have high end areas with nice housing, open green aspect. The differance is in UK the bottome 25% live in council estates which are owned and provided by the state. These were built not to make profit but to house the poor who otherwise would end up living in huge slums. Whilst council estates are not nice but certainly they are still better then the slums you see in Islamabad/Rawalpindi.

And as you pointed out they will help 40 other industries. To build housing you don't need to buy US F-16 fighter technology. There is no excuse why Pakistan has slums. We have labour aplenty., We have land. We have cement. We have spades. Get on with it ~ I know I am making it rather simple to make a point.

In UK every city, large or small will have huge council estates to house the disadvantaged. Otherwise they would be also living in huge slums, living under metal cardboards,shitting and pissing outside. Being white does not make them differant.

My dad makes the same point about canals and flood defences. It's not high tech stuff.
