PM for translating Nazrul’s works

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday laid emphasis on the translation of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s works in all popular languages to spread his creation across the globe.

“The government would extend all possible support in this regard,” she said while inaugurating the two-day Nazrul International Conference at the Osmani Memorial Hall in the city.

The conference was organised to observe the 90th anniversary of the poem `Bidrohi’, the most famous creation of the poet......

Paying rich tribute to the memory of poet Nazrul Islam, the prime minister said there were ideological and philosophical similarities between poet Nazrul Islam and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Both of them used to dream of an oppression-free Bangladesh where everybody will live in peace and tranquility.

PM for translating Nazrul’s works

A commendable action by the Bangaldesh Govt.

However, Nazrul was an Indian all the way through, being born and lived his life in India.

It was only after Bangladesh was liberated that he was asked by India and invited by Banglasesh to go to Bangladesh since they have no Poet Laureate of international fame.

Therefore, one wonders if the Bangaldesh PM is factually right in saying that Nazrul dreamt of an oppression-free Bangladesh where everybody will live in peace and tranquillity.

But then history is reinvented to suit the history one wants to project and then make it, after a few years when memories fade, as the Gospel!

A lot of hostility to follow on this thread I suppose.

I used to think he spent an important part of his life in Mymensingh when he was a young BOY

Your thinking is not quite in consonance with the facts.

Kazi Nazrul Islam was born in the village of Churulia in the Burdwan District of Bengal (now located in the Indian state of West Bengal).

In 1910, Nazrul left the troupe and enrolled at the Searsole Raj High School in Raniganj (where he came under influence of teacher, revolutionary and Jugantar activist Nibaran Chandra Ghatak, and initiated life-long friendship with fellow author Sailajananda Mukhopadhyay, who was his classmate), and later transferred to the Mathrun High English School, studying under the headmaster and poet Kumudranjan Mallik. Unable to continue paying his school fees, Nazrul left the school and joined a group of kaviyals.

In 1914, Nazrul studied in the Darirampur School (now Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University) in Trishal, Mymensingh District.

He joined the British Indian Army.

Such steps should be taken by WB govt first . I m all for a dedication to Nazrul , maybe a memorial or a literary centre commemorating his life and works right at Vishwabharati , Shantiniketan . So that his name is remembered alongside our Kabi Guru ( Rabindranath Thakur ) forevermore .

A little less talk and a bit more action is required.
They can start by developing the Nazrul Institute
a bit more. This PM is always full on talks.

I Remember due to financial crisis many years ago
they even used to allow organizing underground concerts
in their auditoriums. Artcel used to play there quit
often:lol:

Well, PM probably exposed her desire to have West Bengal as the extension of Bangladesh. Who knows... (AL Belives in greater Bengal you know).

By the way, Ustad Alauddin Kha, SD Burman, Rabindranath, Bhupen Hazarika etc.. from Bangladesh too... Its probably BD which donated a lot of laureate to India not the other way around..

^Rabindranath is not from BD, what was that dude:no:

His ancestral home is Khulna.. We provided his livelihood through his Jamindari in Kustia. Calcutta was the capital of Bengal so he lived there so do we live in Dhaka now.

Tagore's ancestral village was in Khulna also spent most of his productive time in Silaidaha. Anyways there was no BD back then, East Bengal yes! ;) He was born in Calcutta.

Present day BD (as well as Indian part of Bengal) aint the proper place of churning out talent, it's the juvenile celebration of mediocrity going on eveywhere! May be things will change in future.

This Juvenile celebration of mediocrity will be the reason,
lets say force experimental stuffs to flourish even more.

No-Offense but few days back there was an attempt to lift
the ban on Bollywood movies, but Civic-Society protested
many of us including. The reason is same as in the 70's.

Sometimes I wonder because of the hard line we take
when preserving the culture do we infact become a bit more Fascist
in Nature....

When is Hollywood coming? :undecided:
