If you can, then try and support other causes too - schools, ambulances, shelter homes, hospitals, legal aid etc

Ansar Burney Trust is another trustworthy charity. They are more human rights than social services, but have a great track record and many accomplishments.

We have quite a few students here on forum. Graduation students that is. They can relatively easily find and spare some time (at least i had all the free time in the world while i was in University). May be we can work on street education? Anyone?

What do you think @Slav Defence

Very nice initiative thread. Being an OverSeas Pakistan (OSP), I always look for such organisations from Pakistan that can be trusted and for years Edhi and SKMH have been two such go to organisations for me.

Guys, most of us hail from better than average families/backgrounds Alhamdulillah and now it is our responsibility to help the needy....Just think if you are able to put a smile on the face of a single person....isn't better than buying maui jim sunglasses, or expensive Swiss watches, ...sparing a little amount of money and injecting that back into society not only blesses us spiritually, it benefits us in this material world too. If we all start contributing and feeding the destitute, helping them with money for their education and health etc. We essentially reduce the number of petty criminals and increase our own security.

I'm living here in Sweden, a country with a strong social welfare system somewhat akin to what a true Islamic welfare state promises to its citizens, it has very low crime rate and thus considered safe both for the rich and the poor (actually a very homogeneous society). A rich man can walk with his expensive items through the desolate streets without the fear of being robbed. Thus if we contribute to the society, it helps us in return and trust me peace is the foremost pre-requisite for the growth. So let's promise with ourselves that we will contribute as much as we can to make the lives of our people better. Let's start today..

Allah bless you all,
W&P

I had this idea in my mind... We need to do it together as it makes it effort a lot easier and effective. Illiteracy is a major problem and many poor cannot send their children to schools sure to financial situation. Rather than spending our time and money in Cinema, it will be better to help the needy in all modes. (Charity, teaching, distribution of extra things) etc
